Sophomores struttedinaweeklater, goose-steppinga new found confidencein theircollegiate standingand eager to prove themselvesin campus life.Juniors flooded inand campus walkoverflowedwith self-assured students with declared majors and socialcircleswhowereintrepidenough to take onsomeofthemostdemandingleadership roles on campus. And casually, unceremoniously, seniors tookthe stage, readyto face the most academicallyrigorousyearof theirlives as they stretched theirwingsinpursuitof their fiitures. No matter whereone stoodincollegelife,wewerebound toemerge fromthe schoolyearwithnewknowledgeand lastinglessonsthatpropelledustowards ^?'t€€0' CU/y€Ct€0^)'to'* tmy 'Ti/eup ^ nanationandcommunitytremblingwitiatransformation,students ^ atthenewly-namedUniversityofMaryWashington sttuggledto definethemselves beyondlabels andreputation. Despite die shifting UMW academicrequirements, tuitionhikes,andparkingproblems, students lookedtotheirfumresand stroveforwardinnewdirections. Sportsteams snaggedchampionship tides and proudly brought home trophies. Students worked relendessly to enliven campus widi dances, fairs, festivals,and fundraisers. Moreandmoreclubswere formed topromotebiggerand betterideals. Professorslecturedwithfinesse,crammingstadentbrainswitiiwisdomandestablishing relationships as mentors that would last a Ufetime. We were more than the Mary Washington CollegeofArtsandSciences-wecametoepitomizeaUniversity.
