"Bartleby der Schreiber" ist der deutsche Titel der amerikanischen Erzählung "Bartleby the Scrivener" von Herman Melville. Es ist das erste Werk, das Melville nach Moby Dick schrieb, und wurde zunächst 1853 in "Putnam’s Monthly Magazine" veröffentlicht und dann 1856 in die "Piazza Tales" aufgenommen. Viele Kritiker sehen in ihr die beste Erzählung Melvilles und sie wird manchmal mit "Der Mantel" von Gogol verglichen. Sie weist aber auch auf das 20. Jahrhundert, vor allem auf Kafka, voraus.
