Eric Newman < Audubon Print 2 messages Barbara Gregory < Thu, Aug 19, 2010 at 4:44 PM To: Eric Newman < Dear Eric: We missed you at the Boston convenon. Congratulaons on your 75 years of ANA membership! I wanted to remind you of our discussion about the Audubon print and your role in its discovery. Are you sll hoping to write an arcle about this for THE NUMISMATIST? Kindest regards, Barbara Barbara J. Gregory Editor-in-Chief THE NUMISMATIST American Numismac Associaon 818 North Cascade Avenue Colorado Springs, CO 80903-3279 (direct) www.money.org < Thu, Aug 19, 2010 at 7:25 PM To: Dear Barbara ;: Thank you for mentioning the 75 years of my ANA membership. I am leaving Martha's Vineyard (president Onama is presently only 1 & 1/2 miles away from us) on September. 5 for St. Louis. The grouse article will be published by the University of Pennsylvania Press on September 1, 2010. The early press release caused considerable publicity because AP, Wall St J, Reuters, etc obtained the text very early and left me with explanations to make. The Philadelphia Inquirer gave it tremendous press as did the St. Louis paper, neither of which I had any input. It is written from an Audubon point because my coauthor and the manuscript reviewers wanted it that way. I plan to revise and rewrite it much more from a numismatic point of view and have already begun. I will do the best I can in revising it as promptly as I can, the sooner the better. I will look forward to your editing it. Think of major problems in other disciplines which numismatics has solved as that is going to be the opening theme. Any early suggestions you and your staff have will be most welcome. The award includes $250, engraved silver medals and imprinted certificates. As each of you receives a medal and a certificate, would you like them to be engraved/lettered with both of your names (that is, "Eric P. Newman & Maureen Levine • 1st Place • 2015") or your individual names (that is, Eric's medal /certificate reads "Eric P. Newman • 1st Place • 2015", and Maureen's medal/certificate reads "Maureen Levine • 1st Place • 2015")? Since the article was such a collaborative effort, we did not feel we could make this choice for you. We will divide the award's cash prize between the two of you, unless you instruct otherwise. IN ADDITION, you also have won the first-place Wayte & Olga Raymond Memorial Literary award, which includes a $400 cash prize and certificates. The certificates can be lettered in the same fashion as the Heath Literary medals and certificates, based on what you choose. The awards will be presented during the ANA World’s Fair of Money in Chicago at the Awards Presentation/Member & Donor Reception on Thursday, August 13, beginning at 4 p.m. in Room 23 of the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois. If you do not plan to attend the convention, you may name someone to accept the awards for you, or your awards can be mailed to you following the close of the convention. Award checks will be sent separately via U.S. Postal Service following the convention. Congratulations! I look forward to hearing from your at your earliest convenience.
