Respiratory Tract Exfoliative Cytopathology Index viii Foreword ix Translating cellular morphology to a definite diagnosis that guides treatment decisions is at the very heart of cytopathology. The diagnostic precision of each individual cytopathologist grows with every new specimen and is enhanced by the continuous correlation with histology and clinical findings. The enormous spectrum of changes that we see under the microscope requires good guidance in order not to get lost in what might appear as visual and biological chaos. Although every case is unique, classification and grouping of recurring observations help us to find our way to the right diagnosis. In this regard, illustrated textbooks continue to play an important role as a solid reference and good guide through the professional life of every cytopathologist. Despite the rapid progress in ancillary methods and molecular testing that we are experiencing in cytopathology, superb morphological diagnosis remains the cornerstone for all further downstream analyses and clinical decisions. It is my true pleasure to write a foreword to this outstanding work, which is destined to serve as a trusty guide in a large and important field of non-gynecological cytopathology. Atlas of Exfoliative Cytopathology With Histopathologic Correlations covers the wide spectrum of cytological findings in a well-organized format. The volume is divided into six chapters. A treasure of more than 500 high-resolution images illustrates the cytomorphologic characteristics and the differential diagnostic challenges associated with exfoliative cytology across different organ systems. The exquisite figures catch the essentials of a
