Program Goals
1. To end the euthanasia of adoptable
animals in NYC’s five boroughs
2. To improve the health & quality of life
of needy animals in inner-city
communities
Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic History
• 1997
– one converted RV (the “Care-a-Van”)
– three team members, 15 surgeries per day max
– Long Island locations
• 2001
– first custom-built Isuzu box truck mobile clinic (later called “M1”)
– 25 surgeries per day max
• Today
– 2002 - M2
– 2007 - M3
– 2008 - M4
– Now: 30 + team members, up to 100 surgeries per day
• 2009
– M5 and Bergh Spay Days for rescue cats

The Mobile Clinic’s Targeted Animals
• Cats and dogs belonging to NYC residents who
receive public assistance
– Medicaid, Medicare, disability, SSI, food stamps, TANF; rent receipt
from public housing, etc. on first come, first served basis
– Reservations for large mixed-breed dogs
• Homeless adoptable cats and dogs
– city shelters, private shelters, rescue groups,
individual rescuers, etc., by appointment.
• NYC feral cat colonies
– TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) for trained trappers by app’t.
