Introduction The National Cancer Institute estimates that there are approximately 9.6 million AmericanswithahistoryofcancerwhowerealiveinJanuary2000. However, there isstillnoaccuratedataonthenumberofAAPIsaffectedby,livingwith,orsurviving cancer.ItisknownthatamongAsianAmericansandPacificIslanders(AAPIs),cancer deathshaveincreasedatafasterratecomparedtoanyotherracialandethnicpopula- tion. Forinstance,AmericanSamoanmenlivinginHawaiiandinCaliforniawereten timesmorelikelytobediagnosedwithNasopharyngealcancer,seventimesmorelikely tobediagnosedwithlivercancerandthreetimesmorelikelytobediagnosedwith stomachcancerascomparedtoWhiteAmericanMales.Factorssuchasacculturation, lowcancerscreeningrates, andlackofculturalsensitivitycontinuetoplaceatollon thecancermorbidityandmortalityratesofAAPIs.
