Network (APINCSN) is national network ofcancer
survivors, caregivers, advocates, health care provid-
ers, researchers, community organizations and cancer
programs that are concerned about the issue ofcancer
intheAsianAmericanandPacificIslander(AAPI)Com-
munity. Foundedin 1997, APINCSNbecame aprogram
ofthe Asian & Pacific Islander AmericanHealthForum
(APIAHF),whichisanationalhealthpolicyandadvocacy
organizationwhosemissionistoenableAsianAmericans
andPacificIslanderstoattainthehighestpossiblehealth
andwell-being.

Introduction
The National Cancer Institute estimates that there are approximately 9.6 million
AmericanswithahistoryofcancerwhowerealiveinJanuary2000. However, there
isstillnoaccuratedataonthenumberofAAPIsaffectedby,livingwith,orsurviving
cancer.ItisknownthatamongAsianAmericansandPacificIslanders(AAPIs),cancer
deathshaveincreasedatafasterratecomparedtoanyotherracialandethnicpopula-
tion. Forinstance,AmericanSamoanmenlivinginHawaiiandinCaliforniawereten
timesmorelikelytobediagnosedwithNasopharyngealcancer,seventimesmorelikely
tobediagnosedwithlivercancerandthreetimesmorelikelytobediagnosedwith
stomachcancerascomparedtoWhiteAmericanMales.Factorssuchasacculturation,
lowcancerscreeningrates, andlackofculturalsensitivitycontinuetoplaceatollon
thecancermorbidityandmortalityratesofAAPIs. Ithasbeenreported that62% of
AsianAmericanwomenovertheageof18reportedapaptestingthepastthreeyears,
whichismuchlowerthanthatofnon-HispanicWhitewomen(82%)
Yet, despite the rise incancer detection and treatmentmethodologies to address
thegrowingrateofcancerintheUnitedStates, thereisalsoanincreasingdearthof
education, preventative, treatment, andsupportservices thatareculturallyandlin-
guisticallyappropriatetoservetheneedsofandthatareaccessibletovariousAAPI
communities.ToincreasecommunityawarenessoforganizationsthatprovideAAPI
specificresourcesandprovidehealthprofessionalswithatooltoimprovethequalityof
theirpatientreferrals,thisresourceguidewasdevelopedwithacomprehensivelisting
oforganizationsnationwide,profilingtheirlocation, cancerservices,andethnicand
linguisticserviceofferings.Itisourhopethatthedevelopmentofthisresourceguide
willbeinstrumentalinnarrowinggapsinhealthcarethatexistbetweenAAPIsand
mainstream populations as well as encourage other AAPI-servingorganizations to
increasetheirscopeofservicesandinfluencethroughAPIAHF.

cancerservicesforAsianAmericanandPacificIslander(AAPI)communities.TheAPINCSN
Cancer ResourceDirectoryprovides detailed information about some ofournetwork
members,theAAPIcommunitiestheyserve,andthetypesofcancerservicestheyprovide.
Cancerpatients,survivors, advocates,organizationsandhealthcareprofessionalshave
requestedthedevelopmentofthisdirectorytoassistinpatientreferralstoculturallyand
linguisticallyappropriatecancerservices.
