The conference was organised by SGAI, the British Computer Society Specialist Group on Artificial Intelligence. Thetechnicalpapersincludedpresentnewandinnovativedevelopmentsinthefield, divided into sections on ‘Machine Learning, Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining’ and ‘Agents, Knowledge Acquisition and Ontologies.’ This year’s Donald Michie Memorial Award for the best refereed technical paper was won by a paper entitled “CascadeML: An Automatic Neural Network Architecture Evolution and Training Algorithm for Multi-label Classification” by A. Pakrashi and B. Mac Namee (Insight Centre for Data Analytics, University College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland). TheapplicationpapersincludedpresentinnovativeapplicationsofAItechniquesin a number of subject domains. This year, the papers are divided into sections on ‘Medical Applications’, ‘Applications of Evolutionary Algorithms’, ‘Machine Learn- ing for Time Series Data’, ‘Applications of Machine Learning’, and ‘Knowledge Acquisition’.Thisyear’sRobMilneMemorialAwardforthebestrefereedapplication paper was won by a paper entitled “Evolving prediction models with Genetic Algo- rithmtoForecastVehicleVolumeinaServiceStation”byHimadriSikharKhargharia andSiddharthaShakya(EBTIC,KhalifaUniversity,AbuDhabi,UAE),RussellAinslie and Gilbert Owusu (British Telecom, UK). The volume also includes the text of short papers in both streams presented as posters at the conference.
