Franco, a professor at Temple University, to participate in a session dedicated to the work of José María Arguedas that took place at the 30th International Congress of the Latin American Studies Association in San Francisco in May 2012. The return to the work of Arguedas and Vargas Llosa from new theoreti- cal perspectives motivated me to carry out, starting with this meeting, an extensive confrontation with both writers’ work, above all with regard to their cultural and ideological origins.
