As this community reformulates itself each year, it builds on the past tradition of excellence distinct to Westminster College. Whether excellence it is in the classroom, on the field, in the auditorium, or beyond the bounds of the typical curriculum, Titans are compelled to rise to the expectations and rigors of previous students that have long since journeyed from this sleepy little tovs^n. This box encompasses the ideals of Mother Fair and is the aspiration for each Titan as they enter the real world. Or perhaps the aspiration derives from somewhere beyond the box . . . 4 Fresh Start 1 Gateway Clipper Homecoming Oxford Study Abroad Relay for Life Graduation While the box contains many annual events, each year students spice up these events, adding own Whether their flavor. it is the theme of Fresh Start, the game show floats of Homecoming, or the senior speaker at graduation, students continue to change and improve each event every year. The new opportunity of studying at Oxford also allowed students to stretch the prior limits of the box. By reaching outside of the typical limits, Westminster students continually find ways to expand their experiences beyond the classroom. Amidst the gloom/ skies on the morning ofAugust 26th, 2005 were the cheery faces and hot pink, tie-dyed t-shirts ofthe Fresh Start staff. Led by senior coordjnatp.r Lindsay Painter and junior coordinator Seth McClarey, the vibrant team of80 volunteers, assisted by the Residence Life staff, began the Fresh Start experience by helping 368 first year students move their belongings into the dorms. According to Lindsay, the theme "We'll help you find your way" sums up the purpose of Fresh Start. "It's a great way for the first year students to feel welcome on campus," she added. Junior Fresh Starter Elisa Cortazzo enjoyed leading the events, commenting, See pages "It was fun and exciting to meet all the first years." Junior memberJoelle Wells 146-147 for also took her position seriously, explaining her decision to join the staff: "I like to snippets from be there for the first years, giving advice wish would have had as a new student." the I I the Key Note The staffmembers were not the only ones to benefit from the Fresh Start — Opening program. The first year students aside from the traditional aspects ofFresh Convocation Start, such as Opening Convocation, the President's Picnic, and the informational speaker. sessions to acclimate them with campus life—participated in social activities, like Singled Out and witnessed the humorous Fresh Start Talent Show. As first year student Kate Kushner noted, "I am glad we had Fresh Start because it put me at ease and made going to my first class better because I knew I would see familiar faces." Whether it was President Williamson's speech or the tie-dye, the Fresh Start Staffensured the first year students a successful beginning.
