To complement the presence of these major public personages in Washington and to provide a unique platform in the United States for Argentina's decision makers and for the newly emerging private sector, the Wilson Center organized two major conferences in 1993 and 1994 to enable the project's scholars and sponsors to join with academics and policymakers from both countries to assess the challenges facing Argentina a decade after the restoration of democracy. The conclusions reached at these meetings form the basis of this publication. "Argentina at the Wilson Center" was made possible by the generous support of a small group of leading members of Argentina's private sector. Beyond giving financial support, the sponsors participated with energy and intellectual vigor in the management of the program and in the public meetings held in Washington. "Argentina at the Wilson Center" exemplifies the meaningful contribution that the business community can make to enhance global understanding of one country's goals. This remarkable project has been applauded for bringing greater attention in Washington to events in Argentina and for enhancing the quality of dialogue between decision makers in a nonpartisan manner in the two countries. The Wilson Center is grateful for the support and leadership provided by Dr. Antonio Estrany y Gendre, a member of the board of BRIDAS S.A. and president of the Consejo Interamericano de Comerico y Producción; Mr. Agostino Rocca, president and chief executive officer of Techint Group; Mr. Jorge E. Romero Vagni, executive vice
