It was organized by the special interest group on “Architecture of Computing Systems”oftheGI(GesellschaftfürInformatike.V.)andITG(Informationstechnische Gesellschaft im VDE). With a tradition of 31 annual editions, ARCS has always been a conference attracting leading-edge research outcomes in computer architecture and operating systems, including a wide spectrum of topics ranging from embedded and real-time systemsallthewaytolarge-scaleandparallelsystems.ARCSprovidesaholisticview of computer architecture as it covers both hardware design aspects as well as a wide range of software techniques required to exploit and build new hardware systems efficiently. ARCS is also a platform covering new emerging and cross-cutting topics, such as autonomous and ubiquitous systems, reconfigurable computing and accelera- tion, neural networks, and AI as well as outlooks on future topics like post-Moore architecturesandorganiccomputing.ThefocusofARCS2018wasonarchitecturesfor robotics, autonomousvehicles, andautomationsystems.Withthis,ARCSisreflecting the large interest in intelligent systems that are currently emerging and that have disruptive character across the entire research and industry landscape. ARCS2018attracted53submissionsfromauthorsin17countries.With14authors, IndiahadmoreauthorssubmittingpapersthantheUK(13),China(12),Japan(9),and France (9). Each paper was reviewed by a diverse and dedicated Program Committee providing a total of 199 reviews. The Program Committee selected 23 submissions to be presented at ARCS and published in the proceedings, which corresponds to a 43% paperacceptancerate.Theacceptedpaperswerepresentedineightsessions:Embedded Systems (3 papers), Multicore Systems (2 papers), Analysis and Optimization (2 papers),On-ChipandOff-Chip Networks(4papers),MemoryModelsandSystems(4 papers),EnergyEfficientSystems(3papers),PartialReconfiguration(3papers)aswell asasessiononLargeScaleComputing(2papers).Theword“cloud”inthebeginning of the preface was compiled from all the paper titles of the ARCS 2018 proceedings. ARCS has a long tradition of hosting associated workshops. The following five workshops were held in conjunction with the main conference this year: – VERFE: 14th Workshop on Dependability and Fault Tolerance – PASA: 13th Workshop on Parallel Systems and Algorithms – FORMUS3IC: Third FORMUS3IC Workshop – SAOS:6thInternationalWorkshoponSelf-OptimizationinAutonomicandOrganic ComputingSystems – CompSpace: Second Workshop on Computer Architectures in Space We thank the many individuals who contributed to the success of ARCS 2018, in particular the members of the Program Committee and all the additional external VI Preface reviewersfor theirtime andeffortincarefully reviewingandjudgingthesubmissions. We further thank all authors for submitting their work to ARCS and presenting accepted papers. The workshops were organized and coordinated by Carsten Trinitis, the proceedings were compiled by Thilo Pionteck, and Gerald Krell, the website was maintained by Markus Hoffmann. Thanks to all these individuals and all the many other people who helped in the organization of ARCS 2018.
