Currently,theMarine CorpsInstitute(MCI)administerscorrespondencecoursesforbothOccupationalSkillDevelopment(OSD)andProfessionalMilitary Education(PME). AutomatingandstrearnliningMCIprocessesisinsufficientconsideringthepivotalimportancedistancelearningplays inaMarine'scareer. Currentapplicationoftechnologytodistancelearningineducation,business,andthemilitaryisdiscussedinlightof informationobtainedthroughinterviews,sitevisits,conferences,andtheliterature.Anon-exhaustivelistoftangibleandintangiblecosts andbenefitsrelatedtovariousdistancelearningtechnologiesisprovided,aswellasatemplateforadistancelearningdecisionmaking process. Theprocesscanbeusedwithdecisionsupportsoftwaretomatchrequirementstotechnologyandselectappropriatemigration pathsthroughcostbenefitanalysis.
