Continuing a tradition started over a decade ago by the World Federation of SoftComputing (http://www.softcomputing.org/)to bringtogetherresearchers interested in advancing state of the art in the field. Continuous technological improvements since then continue to make this online forum a viable gathering format for a world class conference. The programcommittee receiveda totalof 69submissions from30 countries, covering all the continents. This reflects the worldwide nature of this event. Each paper was then reviewed by three referees, culminating in the acceptance of 27 papers for publication. Authors of all accepted papers were then notified to prepare and submit their final manuscripts and conference presentations. 26 papers were presented at the conference and are included in this volume. The organizationof the WSC12 conference is completely voluntarily. The re- viewprocessrequiredanenormouseffortfromthe membersofthe International Program Committee. We would like to thank all members of the International Program Committee for their contribution to success of this conference. We would like to express our sincere thanks to special session organizers, the ple- nary presenters, and to the publisher Springer for their hard work and support in organizing the conference. Finally, we would like to thank all the authors for their high quality contributions. It is all of you who make this event possible! We hope youwillenjoythe conferenceandwearelookingforwardto meeting youvirtuallyatWSC12.WeencourageyoutotakeanactivepartintheWSC12 paper discussions - your feedback is very important to other authors! Note on the environment: We would like take this opportunity to raise the awareness to the importance of reducing carbon emissions by participating vir- tual conferences such as the WSC12. Carbon emissions caused as a result of VI Preface traveling are one of the major contributors to greenhouse effect and climate change. It is believed by many that telecommuting and virtual conferencing mayleadtoasignificantreductionincarbonemissionsevenwhenincreased. We hope that by taking part with this and future virtual conferencing we may help in cutting carbon emissions. February 2008 Erel Avineri Mario Ko¨ppen Welcome Note by the World Federation on Soft Computing (WFSC) Chair Person On behalf of the World Federation on Soft Computing (WFSC) I would like to welcome you all in the WSC12 cyberspace! The 12th online World Conference onSoftComputing inIndustrialApplications providesa unique opportunityfor soft computing researchersand practitioners to publish high quality papers and discuss research issues in detail without incurring a huge cost. The conference has established itself as a truly global event on the Internet. The quality of the conferencehasimprovedovertheyears.TheWSC12conferencehascoverednew trendsinsoftcomputingtostateoftheartapplications.Theconferencehasalso added new features such as virtual exhibition and online presentation.
