Appetite Guide for Commercial Insurance Lansing Branch Office P.O. Box 30546 Lansing, MI 48909 Phone 800.292.1320 Underwriting FAX 888.992.5144 www.emcins.com MK8590 E Appetite Guide for Commercial Insurance The EMC Appetite Guide is designed to provide a tool for our Independent Insurance Agents to evaluate EMC Insurance Companies appetite for various classifications of risk. Our appetite is based on past experience and classification expertise, and is wide ranging. While using this Guide, remember that no two risks are exactly alike, and that individual risks may be better or worse than the norm of the classification involved. Because of individual risk variations within classes, accounts with unacceptable grades may be approved with appropriate justification, while accounts with acceptable grading may not. All potentialpolicyholdersmust meet EMC InsuranceCompaniesminimumunderwriting requirementsto be considered. Following are color coded grading numbers, with explanations to indicate the degree of desirability of the occupancy/operationto EMC: 1 - Preferred: Adesirable class of business, barring unusual conditions not typical of the occupancy/operation and subject to normal underwriting requirements. 22 – DDesiirabblle: AA ddesiirabblle cllass off bbusiiness, bbutt hhas conddiittiions or speciiall hhazardds requiiriing tthhatt tthhe riiskk mustt shhow controlsover. Must meet underwriters approval. 3 – Eligible with Proper Characteristics: A marginal class of business, must be better than average in its class to be considered andbe supportedby account or agency reasons. Management approvalis required. 4 – Typically Ineligible: Considered extremely hazardous, class is not compatible with EMC Insurance Companies philosophy. " – " The line of business is more properly classified by a different class, the products/completed operations exposure is anticipatedwithin the Premises Operationsclassification, or there is no exposure for that line of business.
