Key words Apodia bij7'act e(iDTduponchel )G,elochiida en,ew record, Japan. The genus Apodin Heinemann, 1870 was describe das monotypic and is known to have a broad distribut ievoern the western part of the Palaearcti cregion. The genus ,however h,as been insuMcientl yrevised and has never been found in east Asia so far , From Hokkaid6 one efus (H. Kogi) recently fbund a gelechiid moth which was unfamiliar in Japan. Then, we examined it in detai land identifi eidt as Apodin btfi, acte d(eDuponch elWe). record ' Apodin bijfFact ei(lDauponche lf)rom Japan for the firs ttime here ,and redeseribe and illustr aitt ein detai lon the basi sof the Japanese specimens, Genus Apadia Heinemann Apodia Heinemann, 1870, Schmett Dtl Schweiz (2 )2 (1 )2:86. Type species: Lita bij7'act eDhuaponchel, [1843 ]1842 ,by monotypy. Remarks. This described by Heinemann (1870), genus was as monotypic since when some species have been added by some other authors, Ptrey (191 1C)h,eretie n(190 8a)nd so on. But the genus has not been suMciently revised includin gthe subsequently added species, Heinemann (1870 d)iagnosed the genus mainly based on the shape oflabial palpus and wing venation, but at present we can easily distinguis hthe genus by the unique genital ioaf the male, Although the shape ofthe male genital iiandicate tshe close relationship te the genus Metznen'a ,Apocha is clearly discriminat efdrom the 1atte bry the male and female genitalia. In the male genitali ath,e slightly lobed uncus, the sickle-shaped valva and the oval sacculus are broadly similar to those of lsophn'et ainsd some members of Metzneria ,whereas the 1argely swelling saccus and the long cylindrical aedeagus witheut cernuti are well discernible characters from the latte trwo genera. In the female genitalia t,he extremely small ovipositor and absence of signum are good characters to diserimina ttehe genus from the latte trwo. Larvae grow and oyerwinter on seeds from autumn to the next spring. They pupate in late spring or in early summer, and then emerge in mid summer. Adults are found en the fiower softhe hostplant in the evening.
