Description:
A man's body is found in his car on the South Downs. The only identification is his name (Kevin Stewart) and next of kin - his wife, Sarah. When DI Alan Sinclair and DC Chris James break the news to her she tells them that she and Kevin are divorced so he no longer lives with her.
In Kevin's rented flat they find some antiques plus some others in a storage unit he was renting. They find that he also had a second storage unit but that one is empty and very clean.
To complicate matters Sarah discovers some antique silver, a laptop and a briefcase of papers in the attic. Before she can hand them over to the police and, while she is out, the silver disappears. Who has keys to the house? Sarah has the locks changed but still someone breaks in. She goes to stay with her friend Zelda.
Kevin had been a solicitor and the senior Partners try to be obstructive to the police which makes the detectives wonder why.
One day when Sarah and Zelda are out, the flat is searched - and left very clean. Then Sarah's car is stolen to turn up in her garage with a package of drugs.
A young secretary (Kelly) who works with Sarah and fancied Kevin disappears. Her tortured body is left at Sarah's house.
George, a friend of Kevin’s mother, offers Sarah and Zelda the use of a holiday flat in Torremolinos so that they can spend time safely until the police find out what is going on.
Except that they find themselves being stalked by an Englishman who is staying in an adjacent flat. When Sarah suggests the flat might be bugged they return to England.
Did Kevin own the antiques or were they planted? Did Kelly have the answers?
