在兩年求學過程中，時間似乎過很快，一轉眼將到了退出學生職稱轉換成社
會人階段。在這過程當中，遇到許多困惑難解、害怕無助的時刻，但也因有這些
歷練中令我成長許多。
很感謝我的指導教授瑞菁教授，每當遇到寫作瓶頸時，瑞菁老師總是耐心地
指引寫作方向，當心情低落害怕時，老師會給予許多關懷及鼓勵，這正是筆者寫
作時重要勇氣來源；在寫作過程中，口試委員立敏教授總是帶著關心的話語陪伴
著，給予筆者許多建議及信心；校外口試委員碧如教授在論文口試的時候，給予
的修改建議，促使論文更加堅實及豐富，很感謝兩位口試委員給予筆者肯定及信
心。
在求學的過程中，首先感謝宗男哥哥，每當在論文語句不順暢困惑時，總是

Anthony Browne 超現實插畫與幼兒回應之探討

摘要

本研究主要藉由分析Anthony Browne 圖畫書插畫，以及探討幼兒閱讀文本
插畫過程中對超現實插畫的各種回應行為，歸納出Anthony Browne 圖畫書中超
現實插畫之特質。
本研究運用文獻分析和文本分析（作品分析），選出Anthony Browne 五本圖
畫書作品做為研究樣本，同時參考其他相關文獻，進行整合分析，並以兩位 5
歲幼兒為研究對象，觀察幼兒在5本Anthony Browne 圖畫書閱讀過程中，對圖
畫書插畫的各種回應方式。研究結果發現：
一、Anthony Browne 圖畫書插畫所具有的超現實特質：
（一）不合邏輯的畫法，包括運用相融、顏色、空間、變形及誇大的手法。
（二）富有預告、暗示安排的畫法，包括運用顏色、空間、圖案安排的手法。
（三）引用名畫的畫法，包括運用顏色、空間、圖案安排的手法。
二、幼兒閱讀Anthony Browne 超現實圖畫書插畫後的回應行為：
（一）幼兒（個案）在閱讀過程中，無論是圖畫書中的角色表情、插畫色彩變化，
都能透過觀察中發覺。
（二）幼兒（個案）在閱讀過程中，能以自己的觀察方式找出暗藏在插畫中的線
索。
（三）幼兒（個案）在閱讀過程中的回應行為，大多為直接表達自己的想法。
最後，研究者根據上述研究結果提出建議，以供幼稚園教師、幼兒父母
及未來研究者作為參考。

A Study of Anthony Browne’s Surrealist Illustrations and Young Children’s
Response

Abstract

The study aims to analyze the illustrations of Anthony Browne’s picture books
and discuss young children’s reading responses to his surrealistic style of illustrations
in his picture books. It is hoped that the qualities characteristic of surrealist
illustrations in Browne’s work can thus be identified through the analysis and
discussion.
With reference to relevant literature, the study adopts literature review and text
analysis with a sampling of five picture books by Anthony Browne in order to make a
comprehensive analysis. Subjects of the study are two 5-year-old children, whose
various responses to illustration of the books are observed during their reading
process. The results of the study is summarized as follows:
1. Surrealistic qualities of Anthony Browne’s illustrations in his picture books are:
(1) unexpected juxtapositions and non sequitur, including techniques of blending,
color application, space presentation, disfiguring, and exaggeration;
(2) allusions and hints, including techniques of color application, space
presentation, and placement of patterns;
(3) reference to famous paintings, including techniques of color application, space
presentation, and placement of patterns.
2. The responses of the two young children to reading the surrealist illustrations in
Browne’s picture books are described below:
(1) both children are able to identify in the reading process the changes of facial
expressions of the characters and changes of color in the illustrations;

(2) both children are able to find in the reading process the clues hidden in the
illustrations through their own observations;
(3) both children directly express in the reading process their own opinions.
In conclusion, the author proposes suggestions according to the results of the study for
kindergarten teachers, parents of young children and future researchers.
