Town Carver of 1996 Annual Report ofThe Town Officers The New South Carver Fire Station In the fall of 1987 at Fire Chief Dana Harriman’s request, the Board ofSelectmen established a committee to study the adequacy of Fire Station #3 located at 247a Tremont Street. The South Carver Fire Station Study Committee, comprised of the following members was asked to study the existing facility and make recommendations relative to present and future fire department housing needs in the South Carverarea. Clark Griffith - a citizen at large Frank R. Mazzilli - representingthe Carver Board ofSelectmen Stanley Lowell - representing the Carver Finance Committee David J. Boucher- representingthe Carver Firefighters Association Captain George E. Young III - representing the South Carver Fire Co. 3 The Committee met regularly over the winter and reported back to the Selectmen in the spring of 1988 recommending construction of a new three bay fire station. Said facility to be located on a 1.7 acre lot of land at the corner of Church & South Main Streets which had been donated tothe Town by the Griffith Cranberry Company ofSouth Carverspecifically foruse as afire station. At a special Town Meeting on April 25, 1988, the Town voted to change the name ofthe study committee to the New South Carver Fire Station Building Committee and appropriated the sum of $38,500.00 for architectural and engineering plans as well as preliminary site work for the future station. The committee worked diligently through several lean years and, on June 20, 1994 Town Meeting appropriated the sum of $600,00.00 forthe purpose ofconstructing the new Station 3. In July of 1996 fire apparatus was moved into the new building. Completion of minor details and finishing touches continued through the fall and winter. Ten years ofhard work by the committee combined with a most generous donation by the Griffith Cranberry Company and the commitment ofthe taxpayers, has produced a modem attractive fre station that will serve the community long into the future. A formal open house is expected in May of 1997. Front Cover Photo by Patriot Ledger, Greg Derr Annual Report OfThe Town Officers OfThe Town Carver of Massachusetts Cranberry Land U.S.A.
