Withoutthe decisionsyou maketo place peoplelikeusintopositionsofresponsibility,thesuccessesweachieveonyourbehalfandwithyourassistance wouldneveroccur. OneofthemostcrucialobjectivesoftheBoardofSelectmenatthebeginningoftheyear2000wastobring togetherthe important board and committee memberswho workto steerthe course of Famnington intothe future. Fannington is on the righttrack. The leadershipofthose boards and committees isstrong and the teamworkunprecedented: • ThePlanningBoardappointedasubcommitteeofindividualscalledtheZoningOrdinanceReviewOfficials. Thatcommittee,dubbedZORO,beganinJuneof2000toholdapublicmeetingnearlyeveryweektoreview theoldland useordinance andto recommendchangesto bring itmorecloselyinto linewiththeTown of Fannington Master Plan. The members succeeded in their charge. The community will have the opportunity to vote for or against the new ordinance on Tuesday, March 13, 2001. We would like to commendallofthevolunteersandstaffwhohaveworkedontheproposedzoningordinance-greatjob! • TheConservation Commission hasstepped upitsactivityimmensely. It'smostnotable accomplishments thisyearhavebeentwolandacquisitionsalongtheMadRiver,whichhavebeen placedintoconservation easements. ThiswillpreservethenaturalbeautyofthislandfortheenjoymentofallFanningtonresidents nowandinthefuture. • The newly fonned Economic Development Commission has stepped upto the plate in its evaluation of businesses potentially looking to relocateto Farmington. The Commission is made up ofa crosscut of municipalofficialsandservice,agriculturalandindustrialbusinessleadersinthecommunity. TheEDCisa crucialsupplemental resourceinadvisingandworkingwiththeBoardofSelectmenandotherFarmington boards,committees, andcommissions. Itsmainthrustistoworkwithotherofficialsandcitizenstoensure that for all economic development projects, negative impacts are minimized and positive impacts are maximized. • Asincere"thankyou"isextendedtomembersoftheZoningBoardofAdjustmentfortheirregularworkload as well as their involvement in reviewing the newly proposed zoning ordinance and in their continued participationinmulti-committeemeetings. • WeareprofoundlythankfultotheBudgetCommitteeforitsdedicationandwillingnesstobecomeapartner in budgetdevelopmentfortheTown ofFannington. It has been a great pleasureworking with all ofthe membersontheplanningandpresentationoftheFY2001 budget. OtherprojectsthattheSelectmenhaveinitiatedorwillbeimplementinginclude: • Astatelygranitepostandblackironpipefence,whichhasbeenerectedaroundFernaldPark. Thisproject willbecompletedduringthespringof2001 • Theold,decrepitlamppostinthesquarehasbeenremovedtomakewayforanewlydesignedmedianstrip withabeautifulantiquestylelamppost,whichwillbeinstalledduringthespringof2001 • Thebelltollsonceagain,everyhour,onthehour,twenty-fourhoursadayforthetownclock,whichistelling thecorrecttimesinceithasundergoneamajorrenovationatthehandsofclockmasterPhilipD'Avanza! • TschheooSlprainligttlSetbrietestaSfierdefworalokurPrcohjieldcrtenwi.llbecompletedduringthespringof2001,aswell,makingthewalkto . • BarringanyadditionaldelayscreatedbyStateorFederalbureaucracieshavingjurisdiction,weshouldbegin therepairoftheWestMiltonRoadBridgeduringthespringof2001 • Construction work should begin on the redesigned intersection of Routes 11 and 153 either in the late summerof2001 orinthespringof2002. • DependinguponafavorableappropriationduringtheTownMeeting,sorelyneededworkonthefrontsteps andfacadeofTown Hallwillbeconductedduringthespring andsummerof2001. Theworkwillinclude restorationofthefrontofTown Hall, removaloftheexistingrampandtheinstallationofanelevatorinside thebuilding,whichwillbeaccessiblefromMainStreetandtherearparkinglot. • Once again, depending on results ofthe Town and District Meeting votes pertaining to the Main Street School,themunicipalofficesfortheTownofFamriingtonmaymoveintotheMainStreetSchoolaseariyas July2001. • ThereisimportantplanningtobedoneastheTownofFarmingtonLandfillmustbecappedandclosedby December31,2003. TheSelectmenwillbeworkingwithstaffandcitizenstodetenminethebestcourseof action. Welookforwardtoourcontinuingservicetoyou,thecitizensofFarmington.
