Annual Reports 1996 New Danville, Hampshire Coverphoto: Tuckertown Road on apeaceful winter's day. This historic road, originally laid out in 1766, once lead to the settled area known asTuckertown Village. The roadcurrently provides access to the town forest and the blue heron rookery. TheTown has taken several actions overthe years to preserve Tuckertown Road in it's 1800's "woods road" condition. In 1954 theroad was closed by avote of town meeting. In 1973 itwas designated ascenic road and in 1996 itwas designated as aClass A trail. Also in 1996, in SuperiorCourt, theTown successfully defended againstan appeal ofourZoning Board ofAdjustment's decision to prohibit aproposed large scale graveling operation from turning this quiet road into abusy corridor forgravel trucks. The appeal has moved on to the NH SupremeCourt where, in 1997, theTown will again attemptto save this peaceful old road. ANNUAL REPORTS ofthe TOWN OF DANVILLE NEW HAMPSHIRE For the Fiscal Year Ending December 31, 1996 Full details concerning every aspect ofTown Government are available at any time from your Board ofSelectmen or your Town Clerk. INDEX Budget andWarrants DEDICATION It has been the custom in Danville to dedicate the Annual Report to someone who has made a significant contribution to the Town through his/her time and effortsthereby makingDanville abetterplace to live. This year the Selectmen took a broader approach. We dedicate this report to those who give tirelessly of themselves, but go unnoticed. Without mentioning names, you know who they are, although you may not know their names. Every time you walk into the Town Hall they are there ready to help or answer your questions. When you call for assistance, no matter the time ofday or night, they always showup ready to assist. When you call or visit the Safety Complex, be it Police or Fire, they always seem to be there willing to help. When the Town is in need, like the severe weather we experienced this fall and winter, they gave endlessly oftheir time. They were outfordays, assisting the citizens ofDanville and making the Town passable for utility companies to restore power and services to theTown. Danville fared betterthan all ofour surrounding neighbors duringthecalamity because ofthese volunteers. We, the Selectmen, on behalfofthe Town ofDanville, give all ofyou who do so much our heart-felt thanks. Because of you, Danville is truly a better place to live.
