INDEX 1999 BudgetsandWarrants DEDICATION Melton R. Sanborn June 22, 1909 - December 14, 1998 Melton Sanborn was born in Danville and was a life long resident. During his years here he served in many ofthe Town office positions and the school PTA (including PTA president). The Town office positions he held included: tax collector, road agent, cemetery sexton, cemetery trustee, and Town forester. He also had been very active with the Danville Grange, the Danville Historical Society, the Old Meeting House Association, the Danville Fire Department, and the Rockingham County Forest Fire Warden's Association. He was still the Town's forester when he passed away. Melton was an invaluable resource to those in the Town who sought out information on the Town's history and on life in Danville many years ago. The firstwasthe findings of the Supreme CourtcasebetweenDanville andTerraRealty. The court found in favorofTerraRealtyandtheirrightto use Tuckertown Road due to adeeded right-of-way associated withtheirproperty deed, andthe findings thatthe Town'spositionoftheroadbeinghistoric and anatural feature wasnot substantiated. Sincethe Fall of1998 the BoardofSelectmen have been negotiating anAgreementwithTerraRealty concerning the gravelpermit conditions. AsofJan. 27* thesenegotiations are on going. Anothersignificant issue wasthe competitive procurementofanew trash/recycling contractor. Waste Management, inc. wasthe lowbidderand began providing services on Jan. 1, 1999. A newcontract was issued forrepairofthe Cub Pond dam. Workwill begin in the Spring 1999. Dueto State and Federal laws regardingunderground storagetanks, the three underground storagetanksbehindthe Fire Station wereremoved in Jan. 1999. Newabove ground storagetanks forheatingoil were installed forthe Fire Station andTovm Hall. Newtanks forgas anddicsel fuels will be installed in the March/April 1999timeframe. Closeto $ 1,000,000 Capital Reservefunds inroadreconstructionwill be needed inthe next fewyearsto repairthe culvert on Sandown Road, the culvert onJohnson Road, and rebuildpartofPine Street. Partial grant funding from the Statehasbeenapplied for(decisionhasnotbeen receivedyet). IfDanville does notrepairthese roads, the State will downgrade theiruse withinthe next five or so years and vehicles such as school buses and trash trucks will notbe allowed to crosstheculvertson Sandown andJohnsonRoads. The Selectmenhaveworkedtoprovide the voters with ballot articles on library expansion so thatthe voters may decide which library expansion alternativethey wantthe Town to pursue.
