353/>7 Town Boscawen of ANNUAL REPORT 1990 EGOUNIS STORE Asfarbackas 1825therewasastoreontheproperty. BeginninginApril 1871 C. WesleyCarter and A.H. Brown ran a general grocery store and carried asmall lineofdrv goods. C.W. Carter bought A.H. Brown's interest for $1250.00 on December 26, 1874. In the spring of 1878 he removedhismerchandisetotheBrickStoreacrossthestreet. Thebarnwasbuiltin 1875byGeorge Pillsbury. The Carter family continued to own the property until 1921 when Alia Carter sold to Austin Langley. He in turnsoldtoAnna and GeorgeBugbeeofManchester in 1928. A front had beenplacedonthehousepriortoJanuary 1929whenBerniceandFelixEgouniscametoBoscawen from Rowley, Massachusetts and bought the property. They sold Texaco gasoline until 1958. In 1937 thestorefront wasreplacedandtheoldonewasmoveddowntheroadandbecamethe homeofJames Eastman which is now owned by William Tallman. In 1946 an extension was put on the north side. In 1954 the Boscawen Post Office was located at the Egounis Store. RaymondEgounisandhiswife, Loda, leasedthestorein 1954from hisparentsandpurchasedit in 1961. Theyremodeledit in 1962. Theywerejoinedinthegrocerystorebytheirson. Douglas, in the earlv 1970's and have continued a fine familv business.
