Eachyearthe TownofKingston isproudtohonoroneofitsown whohasmadea
significantcontributiontoourcommunity. Itiswiththissenseofpridethat2001's
AnnualReportisdedicatedtoMarilynB. Bartlett
MarilynBartlettisatruenativeofKingston. Shewasbornhereandlivedonthecomer
ofMainandBartlettStreetswhereherfatherandmotherwereveryactiveintownaffairs.
HerfatherwasTownClerkforanumberofyearsandthenhermotherheldtheposition
for??years!
Marilynattended"grade"schoolintwoofKingston'sschoolswheretheTownHall and
KingstonVeteran'sClubnowstand,thenhelpedherteachersmoveintothenewlybuilt
D. J. BakieSchool. ShebeganhighschoolatSanbornSeminarybeforemovingbrieflyto
ConnecticutandVermontwhileherfatherworkedfortheUS governmentduringWorld
WarII. In 1948 shefinishedhersenioryearatSanbornwhereshewasacheerleader.
MarilynleftKingstonforanotherbriefperiodwhenhernewhusbandgraduatedfirom
UNHandenteredtheAirForceatthetailendoftheKoreanWar. Theythenlivedin
Connecticutforayearbeforereturninghomewiththeirfirsttwochildren.
Whileraisingherfourchildren, Lynne, WilliamStuart,NancyandSteven,Marilyn
becameveryactiveinhercommunity. Sheattendedallherchildren'ssportingevents,
wasa4-Hleaderforoverelevenyears,wasPresidentoftheDJBakiePTAand
participatedintheFirstCongregationalChurchFriendshipCircleandmanyotherclubs
andorganizations.
FormanyyearsMarilynandKayLeClair, asmembersoftheKingstonFiremen's
Auxiliary,wouldventureoutinthemiddleofthenightto servethaweddonutsandcoffee
to firefightersfightingfires-longbeforeKingstonhadaDunkinDonuts.
AfewofthemanyotherwaysMarilynservedhercommunitywereas SanbornRegional
SchoolBoardmember,KingstonBusinessandProfessionalWomen'sClub,memberof
theQueenEstherChapterofEastemStar, Selectman,Kingston's300thAnniversary
CommitteeandtheKingstonDays Committee.
Currently sheisamemberofthePlanningBoard,BudgetCommitteeandTreasurer and
TrusteeoftheFirstCongregational Church.
Whetheritwasdrivingapersonto chemotherapy,pitchinginatTownHallonelection
dayorhelpingbeautifythePlains, forthepast72yearsMarilyncouldalwaysbecounted
ontoservetheTownof Kingston. Wearepleasedto continuetohaveherguidanceas
theTownmovesforwardinthis21stcentury.
