Mrs. Lamottpassed awayonMarch23, 2003. Theybothhad distinguished careerspriorto theirretirement; Paulwasalong-time elected legislatorintheNewHampshire House ofRepresentatives and Muriel servedas the Haverhill SchoolNurse for30years. PAUL AND MURIEL LAMOTT Paulwas agraduate ofWoodsville High School, Class of1934 andworked atthe GraftonCounty Home inNorth Haverhill. Hejoinedthe US Army inJanuary 1941 and later sawcombat infive differentWorldWarTwotheatresofoperationincluding, ^K]— Anzio, Sicily, Casablanca, Algiers andNaplesand several other ~^p warzones. He returnedto Haverhill in 1946. Paul, who is alsoa licensedplumber, was electedto the legislature in 1970 and served 1 atotal of30years. Hewas knownandrespectedas the "Deanof The House." Fewhad served longerthanPaul Lamott, who had ^BjijK^ gainedareputationfor good servicetothe residents ofthe mbHF^ Northcountry. He also servedhisTownofHaverhill asthe Civil Defense Directorandwasa20-yearSupervisorofthe Check List. Muriel was graduated fromthe Haverhill Academy in 1934 and beganhernursingtraining at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville. She Dfl transferredto the Elliott Hospital School ofNursingin Manchester andwas graduated in 1937. She wasemployedas aRegisteredNurse atthe Grafton County Home from 1937 until shejoined the US ArmyNurses Corps in 1945. She returned home and rejoinedthe County Home Nursing staffuntil 1950, when she was askedto be the School Nurse in Haverhill. She retired fromthatpostin 1982, but continued toworkweekend nights atthe County Home forthe next 10years. Paul and Muriel were married inNovember 1938. A daughter, Janice, was bom in October 1946. Bothofthese goodpeople servedtheircommunity,theirstateand nation. Paul wasalways ready to assistaconstituentwho neededhelp, Muriel alwaysreadyto offeradvice andcomfort to the ill. This2003 townreport isdedicatedto alocal couplewho, thankfully, are still verymuchwithus. Katharine and Dr. Katharine andDr. Edwin Blaisdell EdwinBlaisdellhavebeenactivemembersofour communityformanyyears. Bothare graduatesofCornell University. Theyranasuccessful animalhospital inNorth Haverhill andcontinuetoboardanimals fortheTown. Katharine (Kay) haswrittenseveralverypopularbooks on thehistoryofthearea. Sheremainsactive inthe Haverhill Historical Societyandwas achartermemberofthe Heritage Commissionofthe Town. Kaynowenjoys gardening, directingthechurchchoirandhernumerous grandchildren andgreat-grandchildren. Dr. Blaisdell (Doc, Ed), alegendaryveterinarian, isnow retiredandenjoys icefishing, huntingandcaringforhis Christmastree farm. He still attendsmostLion's Club meetings and fundraisingevents. Heremainsagreat storytellerandhas entertainedmanyofuswithamusing recollections ofpracticingveterinarymedicineoverthe years. Hetellsthe storythatonce, whenrespondingto an emergency callatthe higalls farm, hewas greetedby Clark Ingallswith"Whatareyoudoinghere, I calledfora veterinarian". Edmaintains anextensive collectionofold farmtools, whichheproudlydisplaysatlocalevents. EdandKayhave also collectedalarge quantityofold photographswhichareanexcellentrecordofthehistory ofthe TownofHaverhill and surroundingarea.
