There were five special telephones called "red phones", in five homes inTown. Someone had to be home all the time to take emergency calls and George difi more then his share of baby-sitting a red phone. One of the fires George remembered the most was when George A. Bassett's bam burned, before that fire got cleaned up, Leslie Kenniston's bam burned, which made for a very busy day. V George was also a Deputy- Forest Fire Warden for many years. •'mj^^jn^i^ George stepped down as Deputy to take care of his mother during a long illness. It was at this time that he became ill himself. George lost his battle with cancer on September 1, 2000.
