He attended the Croydon CongregationalChurchintheEastVillage. Budattendedthebrickschool inCroydon EastVillageforeightyearsfollowed byfour yearsatTowleHigh, graduating in 1934. In the64 yearsthat ensued, hewasproudtosayhehad nevermisseda town meeting,with oneexception becausehehadbeen in thehospital. In 1943 whileworking at Door Woolen mill in Newport, he met his wife Rita. In 1948 he was appointed Deputy Town ClerktoassisthisfatherDanaS. Gross. HecontinuedtoserveasDeputyTownClerkforhiswifeRitaandthen2yearsfor Koreen Bridgeo, endinghistenurein 1989after faithfullyserving for43 years. Over aperiod of60yearsheheldmanypositions in thetown aswell asservedon several committees such as the Waste Disposal andtheCemeteryCommitteethatset up regulations forCroydonCemeteries. In 1949 Budwasappointedbythe Selectmen tofill theTown Road Agent'sjob for Ralph Curtis. Hecontinuedto holdthatposition through 1951. In 1966 BudwastheMasterofCeremoniesforCroydon's Bicentennialcelebration. Heserved7yearsasamemberoftheCroydon School Board spanning the years from 1967 through 1973. From 1981 through 1994 Bud acted as an alternate on the PlanningBoardattendingnearlyalltheirmeetingsandmaintainedanotebookrecordingthosemeetings. In 1982heserved asamemberoftheBoardofTrusteesoftheTrust Fundsandfrom 1990to 1992 heservedasa BallotClerk. LateintheFallof1950BudstartedworkfortheStateofNewHampshireasalookoutwatchmanonCroydonMountain.He heldthispositionwiththestateuntil 1956. Thisperiodoftime includedtheGrantham Mountain fireof1953. In 1956he becameaDistrictFireChieffortheStateofNH. Heproudlyserveduntilthefallof1980,retiringafter30yearsofservice. Hecontinuedtoattendtheirmeetingsthrough Januaryof1997. Bud lovedNewHampshire. To choose one Selectmen forthree years, one Treasurer forthree years, two Trustee ofTrust Funds & Cemeteries, one forthree years, one for one year and all such officers and agents that may be necessary for the transaction ofTown business for the ensuing year. Article 2. To see ifthe Townwill vote to raise and appropriate $237,900 for general townoperations. TownOfficers Salaries Article 3. To see ifthe Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of Eight Thousand and Thirty Seven Dollars (8,037) for the Croydon Police Department, (recommended by the Selectmen) Article 4. To see ifthe Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of Six Thousand Dollars (6,000) forthe Croydon Volunteer Fire Department. (recommended bythe Selectmen) Article 5. To see ifthe Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sumof ThirtyThousand Dollars (30,000) to reclaimand pave asectionofCash Street. (recommended by the Selectmen) Article 6. To see ifthe Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sumofTenThousand Dollars (10,000) forthe CapitalReserve Fund forHighwayDepartment Equipment, (recommended bythe Selectmen) Article 7. To see ifthe Town willauthorizethe Selectmento withdrawthe sumofThirty FourThousand Dollars (34,000) fromthe CapitalReserve Fund forHighway Equipment to purchase anew Case 508L Loader/Backhoe. (recommended bythe Selectmen) Article 8. Polling hours inthe Town ofCroydonare now 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Shallwe place aquestiononthe state electionballot to change polling hours so that polls shallopenat 11:00 AM and closeat 7:00 PM forallregular state elections beginning September2002. Uponanaffirmativevote onthe article the governing bodyofthe Town shall notifythe SecretaryofState, bythe filing deadline established inRSA655:14, ofthe approved times forthe questionto be printed onthe next State General Electionballot.(recommended bythe Selectmen) Article 9. To see ifthe Townwillauthorize the Selectmento withdraw up to Fifteen Thousand Dollars (15,000) asneeded fromthe Capital Reserve Fund for Solid Waste to cover cost ofland fillclosure.(recommended by the Selectmen) -6
