Victor was born in Fitzwilliam on October 14, 1910; grew up in Fitzwilham and then moved to Troy. He worked at Troy Mills until retirement. He was a firefighter for 70 years, first with the Fitzwilliam Fire Department for 16 years and then 50 years with the Troy Fire Department. He was Deputy Chief in Troy from 1965-1967, and Fire Chief from 1968-1969. He was a Forest Fire Warden for more than 50 years. Victor never missed a meeting, a fire, or a firemen's breakfast. You would always find him peeling potatoes for the Saturday morning breakfasts and whatever else needed to be done. He never missed the Firemen's Ball. He always attended with his wife, Norma, and afterherpassing, his sister, Pia, accompanied him in the Grand March, with his full dress uniform. When Victor wasn't at the Fire Station, you could find him at home in his greenhouse where he raised tomato and pepper plants and flowers for his gardens and window boxes. It was Victor's pleasure to raise the plants to share with everyone. Victor loved to go fishing in his spare time and when blueberry season was in, you could see his car at the best spots in town. He was always happyto show you where the best picking was. New firemen were fortunate to benefit from his efforts in guiding them. Victor's commitment to the betterment ofthe Troy Fire Department and the Town ofTroy and its residents will be difficult to surpass. It was modeled after the Federated Church in Templeton, Massachusetts. The Troy Meeting House was one of six copied from Templeton over a A twelve-year period. Mr. Sullivan did the framing and outside finishing. Samuel Morse of Templeton did the interior work. In 1856 the Meeting House was turned to face the common. The building has a shallow portico with pedimented gable end supported by two pairs of columns. The pedimented gable rests on paired corner pilasters and a frieze. The A three front doors have a continuous lintel. square clock stage with octagonal belfry, bell cast dome and weathervane may be viewed atop the Town Hall.
