ChiefBumsjoinedtheFireDepartmentonJuly7, 1949andbecameitschiefin 1955. Hewasstillservingaschiefwhenhepassedawayon August4, 1995. ChiefBumsalsoservedseveralyearsasDirectoroftheSouthwestern NewHampshireFireMutualAidSystem. Hewasafoundingmemberofthe ConnecticutValleyFireMutualAidSystem. AnotherofMike'smanyaccomplishments wasservingforthirty-eightyearsontheExecutiveBoardoftheNewHampshire FirearmsAssociation. ChiefBums'leadershiphasproducedoneofthefinestFire Departmentsanywherearound,andtheTownofCharlestowoicanbemostproudofthis fact. Mikealsohadmanyotherinterests,involvingtheTown. Hewasinstmmentalin theChristmasTreeLightingprogramovertheyearsandhelpedvwthmanyother committeesandprojects. ChiefBumswasalsoanactivememberoftheElksLodgeof BellowsFalls,Vermont. MikeBumswillbemissedverymuchbythecitizensofthis communityformanyyearstocome,andwillbethoughtofoften,especiallybythe membersofhisFireDepartment.
