Circlingthebookarethefirstthreewords, inLatin,oftheUniversitymotto:Quaecumquesuntvera(What- soeverthingsaretrue).Theouterborderofthesealcarriesthe nameoftheUniversityandthedateofitsfoundii\g.Thisseal,which remainsNorthwestern'sofficialsignature,wasapprovedbythe BoardofTrusteesonDecember5, 1890.
