Annals of Tourism Research, Vol. 29, No. 4, pp. 1211-1217, 2002 Pergamon Printed in Great Britain 0160-7383 /02/$22.00 www.elsevier.com/locate/atoures PII: S0160-7383(02)00088-9 THE ANNALS INDEX VOLUME 29 Recent Subject Indices of Annals were produced by Margaret Swain (University of California-Davis, USA). This marks the first Subject Index prepared by Pergamon Press. The in-house indexer was asked to use the past indices as the bedrock upon which this and future versions are pre- pared. Of course, tourism, like most other subjects, is a changing field. Therefore, this index, like those in earlier editions, will be introducing new entries which signal new inroads and research advances made. By the same token, the lifecycle of some research topics will have come to an end, or have been transformed to another thrust, including being absorbed into other themes, and these too are reflected here and will be in future editions of the subject index. Viewed together, this and other indices of Annals clearly reveal that tour- ism is a thriving field of investigation, multidisciplinary in nature and scope, making inroads in all directions, forming a body of knowledge which continues to grow rapidly. The Author Index (which follows this Subject Index) and the list of referees (which appears in the second issue of each volume), among others, represent a registry of an army of researchers who are developing, shaping, and mapping the expanding landscape of knowledge in tourism.
