Description:

Anecdotes of Oyasama, the Foundress of Tenrikyō (稿本天理教教祖伝逸話篇) is an anthology of anecdotes about Nakayama Miki, the foundress of the Japanese new religion Tenrikyō. This text is one of the three supplemental texts to the Tenrikyō scriptures, along with The Doctrine of Tenrikyō (天理教教典) and The Life of Oyasama, Foundress of Tenrikyō (稿本天理教教祖伝).

The book was originally published in four volumes, each containing fifty stories, from January if 1974 to October of 1975 by the Kōki Committee, a group of Tenrikyō scholars and priests, and as such I have accredited authorship to them. These four volumes were eventually revised and released as one set of two hundred stories on January 26th, 1976, which was coincidentally the Ninetieth Anniversary of Oyasama (i.e. the anniversary of when Nakayama Miki "withdrew" from life in 1886 and her soul become immortal). The first English translation, which is what I have uploaded here, was released on May 26th, 1977.

This and other Tenrikyō texts can be found for free on the Tenrikyō Resource Wiki. I have done nothing to alter the text outside of converting the DOC file to PDF.
