During WWII Arnie worked for the Savanna Army Depot. He farmed in the Chadwick, Sterling
and Morrison, IL areas. Most recently he was driving a truck for Freeport Fast Freight in Sterling,
IL. Arnie was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison where he served as a
deacon. He was also a member of the Teamsters Union Local #705 and the Morrison Country
Club. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, crossword puzzles and playing cards. Arnie enjoyed making
specialty hangers for family and friends and loved making bread and pies.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary J. (Ron) Pilgrim of Morrison, IL; two sons, Ronald
(Louise) Wiersema of Morrison, IL and Rodney (Beth) Wiersema of Pella, IA; eight
grandchildren, Melissa (Kevin) Johnson, Lance (Lacey) Wiersema, Karla (Jason) Stewart, Jana
(Charles) Voorhis, Mike (Anne Dahner) Knott, Justin Knott, Eric Knott and Jasmine Ainetchian;
fifteen great grandchildren, Brandon Knott, Jacob Knott, Daekota Knott, Olivia Knott, Jordan
Price, Brenton, Brittney, Logan, Taylor and Allen Johnson, Carter Seamer and Cora Wiersema,
Allan and Sarah Bowen and Charles Voorhis; two sisters, Dorothy (Jay) Van Zuiden of Fulton,

Notes for Jabbes Newendyke:
The death of Jabbes Newendyke occurred Sunday evening at his home about
five miles south east of Morrison. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 o'clock at
the house, 1:30 at Holland Church. Rev. S.C. Koster will conduct the services.
Interement will be in Grove Hill Cemetery.

Jabbes Newendyke is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Newendyke, one of the well
known families of this section. Jabbes was born in Garden Plain township twenty-
five years ago, April 25. He lived the greater share of his life in that town. Two
years ago this month, he was united in marriage to Miss Englekens of Ustick, the
marriage taking place in her home town. The couple has one child, a son about
six months old. He with the wife and the parents and many relatives mourn the
loss of this good man.

He rented a farm a few miles south east of Morrison and was doing well. He was
a hard working, economical man. He was a good manager and through his
thriftiness and hard work he and his wife saved up no small sum for the time they
have been working together. He stood high with all of his people and he was a
good neighbor as they will verify. The death of this man will be mourned by a
large circle of friends besides his relatives. He was one man among a thousand,
there could be spared much better, thousands, than this young farmer. The wife
and baby have the sympathy of the whole community.

The deceased had an attack of pneumonia. It was a complicated case and a
general infection gained control of the system and he could not throw it off. He had
not been sick long. A consultation of doctors was held Sunday, but nothing could
be done to stop the devastation of the reaper death.

Elizabeth Newendyke was born in the Netherlands June 26, 1875, the daughter
of Jabez and Winnie Haan Newendyke. She was married to George Houzenga
on Dec. 12, 1895. She was a member of the Fulton First Reformed Church.

Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. John (Minnie) Eissens, Mrs. Martin (Winnie) Dyke,
both of Fulton; Mrs. George (Anna) Balk, Mrs. Garrett (Gertrude) Ottens, Morrison;
three sons, Jabez, Jake, and Edward, all of Fulton; 27 grandchildren, 56 great
grandchildren, one brother, Ed Newendyke, and one sister, Mrs. John Voss,

JOHN J. HOUZENGA , 81, of Fulton, grandfather of Mrs. Kenneth Housinga of
Morrison, passed away Sunday morning (19 Mar 1944) after an illness of several
weeks. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Sikkema funeral
home with the Rev. H. Moliema officiating. Burial was made in the Fulton
Cemetery. Mr. Housenga was born in The Netherlands on Dec. 23, 1862, the son
of George and Alice Houzenga. He came to this country in 1891 and farmed in
the Fulton vicinity until he retired 23 years ago. He was married to Dora Temple
in 1887. Surviving besides the widow are four daughters: Mrs. Jacob Huizenga of
Round Grove, Mrs. John Medendorph of Fulton, Mrs. Jake Housenga of
Cordova, and Mrs. John VanKampen of Ustick; six sons: Henry, Garrett and
Dave of Fulton, George of Thomson, Alex of Ustick and John of Owantonna,
Minn. and 50 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by one son, Jacob, and two brothers, Jacob and Peter, and one sister.

DORA (TEMPLE) HOUZENGA - Funeral services for Mrs. John Houzenga were
held at 1:30 Friday afternoon at the Sikkema funeral home, and at two p.m. at the
Trinity Reformed church with the Rev. Delbert Vander Haar officiating. Burial was
in Fulton cemetery. At the church services vocal selections were offered by E. J.
Housenga, accompanied by Mrs. George Renkes. Flowers were in charge of Mr.
and Mrs. Richard Vogel, and the pallbearers were grandsons of Mrs. Houzenga.
