Abstract Anewspecies,Scaphidiumkumejlmaerlsesp nov., isdescribedfrom
KumejimaIs.,theRyukyus,Japan,togetherwithillustrationsofimportantfeaturesanda
keytothesixspeciesoccurringintheRyukyus.
ThegenusScaphidiumOLIVERbelongstothetribeScaphidiiniofthesubfamily
Scaphidiinaein the familyStaphylinidae(NEWTON&THAYER, 1992)andcomprises
267 species from the world (LoBL, 1997; HosHINA & MoRIMoTo, 1999). In the
Ryukyus, fivespeciesofScaphidiumhaveso farbeenknown tooccur(HosHINA&
MoRIMoTo, l999).Recently,wefoundoutanewspeciesofScaphidiuminthejunior
authors' collection,whichhadbeentakenonKumejimaIs.,theRyukyus.Wearegoing
todescribeitandprovidearevisedkeytothesixspeciesoftheRyukyusinthepresent
paper. ThenewspeciesiseasilydistinguishedfromotherJapanesespeciesofScaphi-
diumbyitssmaller,robuster,brown,andimmaculatebody.
Theholotypedescribedinthepresentpaper ispreservedinthecollectionofthe
EntomologicalLaboratory,KyushuUniversity.

Male and female. Coloration:- Dorsumconco1orouslybrown; lst-6thseg_

roundedatsides;disca1puncturesofelytrasparse,andminutelyorstronglyimpressed;

Male. Metasternum with denseand decumbent pubescence; male genitalia
(Figs.6-8)about0.90mminlength,0.41mminwidth,oval ingeneral;medianlobe
roundbasally,triangularapicallyinventralanddorsalviews,sharplypointedapically
inlateralview;paramereslonger thanmedianlobe,crocke(Lroundapically inventral
anddorsalviews,almoststraight,roundapicallyinlateralview;innersacsimple,with
7sclerites(Fig 9).
Female. Metasternumglabrous.
Length. 3.1-3.3mm(holotype:3.lmm).
Distribution. Japan:Ryukyus(KumejimaIs).

◆Typeseries. Holotype: 3,takenina forestalongtheShiraseRiver,Kumejima
Is.,OkinawaPref., theRyukyus, 14~16-m-1998, M. MARUYAMA leg. (TypeNo.
3097,KyushuUniversity).Paratype:1 ,samedataasholotype.
Remarks. This species is similar in appearance to Scaphldlum brunneum
HosHINAetMoRIMoT0,1999,but thebody is3.1-3.3mm in length, andabout 18

timesas longaswide(Fig. l). Incontrast,S brunneumhasthebody4.5-4.7mmin
length,andabout2.2timesaslongaswide.
Etymology. Thespecificnameisderivedfromthenameofthetypelocality.
要 約
保科英人・丸山宗利:琉球産Scaphidiu,n属 (ハネカクシ科デオキノコムシ亜科デオキノコム
シ属)の1新種. - Scaphidium属は, 琉球から5極が知られていたが, 著者の1人丸山が,
沖縄県久米島から1新種を採集した. これをScaphidiu,nkumeJlmaensesp nov. (和名:クメジマ
デオキノコムシ) として記載するとともに, 琉球産6極の検索表を付けた. 本種は,Scaphi-
diu″1brunneum (チャイロデオキノコムシ) に似てぃるが, 体サイズが小さく, 相対的に幅が広
いことで区別できる.
