"(A)in15States(asdeterminedbytheSecretaryofHealth
and Human Services) and such other States as elect such
amendmentstoapplytothem,and
"(B)subjecttoparagraph(2),duringthe6V2-yearperiod
beginningwith1992.
Forpurposesofthisparagraph,theterm'State'hasthemeaning
givensuchtermbysection210(h)oftheSocialSecurityAct(42
U.S.C".(2)4(1A0)(h)T)h.e Secretary ofHealth and Human Services shall
conductastudythatcomparesthehealthcarecosts, qualityof
care, and accessto services undermedicare selectpolicies with
thatunderothermedicaresupplementalpolicies.Thestudyshall
bebasedonsurveysofappropriateage-adjustedsamplepopulations.
ThestudyshallbecompletedbyJune30,1997.
"(B)Notlaterthan December31, 1997,theSecretary shall
determine,basedontheresultsofthestudyundersubparagraph
