Increased focus on young recipients has been facilitated through the implementation of newborn hearing screening programs. Combined with better objec- tive methods for the diagnosis, these eff orts have resulted in positive outcomes in speech, language and educational development of early implanted children. With a cochlear implant and an FM system, children can overcome noise, distance and reverberation in acoustically challenging situations. The FM system ‘focuses’ speech directly to the child’s ear – and the child becomes an active partner in the conversation rather than an observer. When an FM system is connected to the speech processor, the child hears the input from both the processor microphone and the FM system microphone. The sound received by the microphone of the processor will be slightly softer compared to the normal listening situation in order to give priority to the sound from the FM system. This mode is called MIX mode and is advisable for most listening situations. Should a situation require listening to an external device without disturbing background noise, the EXT mode is available (not available in DUET). In EXT mode, the processor microphone is deactivated, and only the signal of the external device is sent to the processor. MIX/EXT MODE FOR THE REMOTE BATTERY PACK When using the Remote Battery Pack, the MIX and EXT functions are selected by the EXT/MIX switch. This manual will show how easy and straightforward it is to connect the CI-system to the Oticon Amigo FM solution so children with a CI will benefi t from their Amigo FM solution. For detailed information about use, suggested fi tting and maintenance of the individual processors, please refer to relevant instructions from MED-EL. 3 MED-EL OPUS 2 speech processor Equipment needed: Power sequence steps 1-7: > MED-EL OPUS 2 speech processor > FM Battery Pack Cover from the FM Extension Kit A > Amigo Receiver R1 or R2 B > Amigo Transmitter T10, T20 or T21 1.
