We have een almost every Amiga CD title in eltistence and sadly. the general trend appears to be "shovel as much data on as possible nnd to hell with the quality". The majority
of ti,es. CDs are also developed as multi-platform CDs and while this may be advantageous for the company selling them. the end user is faced with a CD containing a high
propon.ioo of files thut he probably can't even u 'e. So what is leO? A CD containing loads of badly organised directories filled with Il,W quality (in some cases even pathetic)
graphics. Being a little disappointed. the user lben looks in the fonl directories and fin~ ... a massive task ,)n his hands. .. he has hundreds of fonts (that are probably duplicated
many times) and no way of knowing what he's got! The poor end user is tben literally forced into loading each individual font into an application, just to see what fonts he's
actually got! If iliat wasn't bad enough. he then. quite possibly. discovers that most of the fonts have missing and/or corrupt rullo<!
Snme of these "so called" CD developers even get away with .. boveUing" data from their old CDs ontO new ones and releasing the new CD as "Professional". We could go on
and on and on. but why hore you with something YOll already know? We genuinely feel thalthe current situation stinks and we at EMC are aiming t set the ·tandard on which aU
data CDs on the Amiga will be judged. A big claim YOll say? Well, here's a brief insighlto what is included on the EMC CDs and how the data is organised ..
Firstly, these CDs are aimed directly at Amiga users, aad are DOL designed for multi-platfoml computer use. This means lhat you don't get CDs loaded with PC fLies that you can
not use! To aid in the rapid location of font. clipan and image data. each of tbe 3 CDs contains IFF fOn! preview screen for every fOn! (regardless of ju fonnat). you simply
click on the preview icon to see the font! The clipan and image directories have been fully sorted and all directories include full IFF preview thumbnail index !;Creen (and also
descriptive filenames). Purchasers or the CDs will also have the option to buy a typeface book. published especially for the EMC CDs. containing font printOUts!

This avalanche of badmouthing proved such a strain for him that he

Now my experience of Amiga users is that they are very civilized, They
are a gathering, almost a family, who are less aggressive, less grudge
bearing, than any largely youngish male group I have known. Yet let them
loose, in those days, on-line and they could, and did, blow away the faith in
humankind of our, it's true, somewhat sensitive Comms man.
It appears from this, and from a number of other aspects that are
emerging about this "Next Big Thing" in computing, that free access to such
a medium doesn't always appear always to bring out the best in people.
Which is why some non-fans of the Net are still non-fans.
Someone said to me that the people who go on the In ternet are like those
who sit by their telephones anxious to make their frequently less than well
informed opinions heard on radio phone-ins and, he went on, ''WOUld you
really like to be in communication with them all the time or even a part of the
time?" Not true?
Many people won't be convinced about the usefulness of the Net until
they see a purpose that fits their normal lifestyle. And that isn't to chat to
people with whom they wouldn't converse usually. That objection might be
overcome by events, such as happened after the recent Budget from the
Chancellor of the Exchequer, It was claimed that immediately following the
Budget speech there was a "traffic jam" on the Net, when surfers flooded the
Treasury's computers trying to get details. Apparently the servers were
"utterly swamped" and, as a result, those who called up the Treasury found
