This interest became realized and personalized when I watched my grandfather die of Alzheimer’s disease. This heartbreaking experience made me hope to never again see anyone die of such a disease, and although this hope may be unrealistic, it has led me to ight towards reaching a goal of a world without Alzheimer’s disease. After high school, my undergraduate studies took place at the University of California, Berkeley, double majoring in Neurobiology and Psychology in order to understand the brain at a microscopic and systemic level. Concurrently, I worked at the University of California, Davis Alzheimer’s Disease Center, conducting neuropsychological evaluations of patients who were referred to our research clinic. These experiences taught me that there was a tremendous lack of progress being made in treating Alzheimer’s disease, which pushed me to pursue a career as a physician scientist. This brought me to the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP; an MD/PhD program) at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, where I have been fortunate to participate in a variety of projects aimed at better understanding the brain, from traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and brain tumors to Alzheimer’s disease. ix
