PASCHAL The ultimate test of a man is mea- suredbythewayhe dealswithadversity. The life of Lee Andrus Paschal, Sr. epitomizes the triumphs of human will overadversityanddarkness. Hewasborn in atime inAmericawhenfreedom, edu- cation, and vision were not the com- panions ofBlackmen. Despite obstacles, his parents, the late John and Alice Paschalplanted the seeds ofnobilityand strengthwithintheirson, Lee. Aproduct ofChristianeducation, LeeleftMuskogee, Oklahomawherehewasbornandmatric- ulated at Oakwood College. He distin- guished himself as a leader: President of the Classof1946, PresidentofEpsilonSig- ma, President of the Student Council, { President of the Choir, President of the * Excelsior Society, President of the Seminar, Treasurer of Junior Class, Student Coun- and Educational Club, Business Manager, Acorn, and Member of College Quartet. cil, ' Elder Paschal has worked diligently to advance the causes of the alumni associa- tion and has travelled nationally establishing chapters and revitalizing interest in the East West, South, andNorth. The AlumniAssociationhastaken onnewmeaningwith his appearances at the Regional Workers Meetings, the United Negro College Fund conferences andnationalalumnimeetingsthroughouttheUnitedStates. Itwashis idea that the October NationalExecutive Meetingbe held invarious regions ofthe country. This has promoted interest and increased memberships in the association. During his administration the Annual Alumni Homecoming was changed from the college cam- pustotheVonBraunCivic CenterinHuntsville anddraws anattendance ofnearly 10,000 annually. The New York Chapter honored Elder Paschal in 1976 awarding him the Leader- ship Award. In 1979 he was named the Alumnus of the Year. In 1981 he, along wth Mrs. Edna LettWilliamson, were feted in a testimonialbanquetrecognizingtheir posi- tions as members of the Oakwood College Board of Trustees. The Executive Committee of the National Alumni Association lauds Elder Paschal forhisleaderhsip, loyalty, and abilitytokeepthe organizationvibrantforover 15years. Supporting Elder Pashal in his alumni service and sacrifices have been his wife, theformerRuthJordan, an Oakwoodite, his sonMichael andhiswife, Cassandra, and his many friends in Northeastern Conference and around the globe. Elder Paschal's nobility of character, his firm commitment to the Adventist Mes- sage, andhisvisionofagreatertomorrow, have enrichedthelivesofmany. The Alumni Association wishes for him a peaceful and prosperous retirement from his heavy as- signment as our president. He will always be "Alumni President Emeritus."
