Reaves President We/come^ Alumni and visiting friends ofOakwood College, 1994 has greeted us with some ofthe most challenging issues ever to face ourworld. Times from the pastyears were alarming, however, todaythey seem more frightening as we behold the moral fiber ofhumanitytearing into shreds. Being aware ofthe prophetic warnings referring to the end oftime, Oakwood CoUege has overtheyears endeavoredto instiUwithinits students a Christlike fashion ofsoul thatwould always remain in style with heaven. Inthepast, thousands have gathered everyHomecomingweekend, respondingtotheinvitationto meet at Oakwood to have their hopes renewed in receiving inspiration to face the challenging issues yet before us. This weekend is yours to enjoy, as well as accepting the idea ofreaching our goals for Oakwoodwith a burning ambition. Dorothy Smith Homecoming Coordinator Dear Fellow Oakwoodites: Homecoming '94 comes at a time when Oakwood College is nearing another crossroads in its history- its 100 birthday! Theseyears ofthe college's existence leading up to our centennial celebration have afforded us tremendous opportunities to demonstrate quality Christ-center education and to preserve in memory the accomplishment and dignityofour black heritage. I encourage each ofyou to keep faith with Oakwood as it strives to attain the CAPITAL CAMPAIGN financial footing it needs via its first to assure its long-term viability as an institution ofhigher Seventh-dayAdventist education. Merchand NATIONALALUMNI PRESIDENT: Mrs. ChloraJones GENERALHOMECOMING COORDINATOR: Mrs. Dorothy Smith REVISED:2/28/94 "FocusingOn TheseTimes" Vesper Speaker William L. Winston Elder William L. (Bill) Winston is a native of Durham, N.C., the fifth of six children born to the late Samuel G. Winston Sr. and Sharon Dickerson Winston. He is a graduate of Merrick-Moore High School. In 1984, Elder Winston received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Oakwood College with majors in Theology and Business Administration, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He served as President of the class of '84, participated in the Campus Outreach Ministries and completed a two year Internship at the Oakwood College Church under Elder E.C. Ward. The South Atlantic Conference extended a call to Elder Winston in the Spring of 1984 and sponsored him to the Seminary. He received his Master of Divinity Degree from Andrews University in 1986. Elder Winston has pastored the New-Covenant District in Savannah, GA which included a church in Ridgeland, SC and companies in Beaufort SC and in Reidsville, GA. He presently serves in South Carolina as pastor of the Florence-Darlington-Lake City District. The former Eula Pulliam of Burlington, N.C. and Elder Winston were married 26 years ago. They have two daughters, Emilie and Mrs. Lori Jones and two granddaughters, Whitney and Melanie. During his ministry the Lord has blessed Elder Winston to evangelize and baptize, to build and dedicate, to shepherd and nurture. His greatest desire is to see Jesus.
