OAKWOOD COLLEGENATIONALALUMNIASSOCIATION V Welcome to the Centennial Alumni Weekend!! 100 YEARS AGO. Ellen White articu- lated what the purpose of the institution, now known as Oakwood College, should be. She wrote, "I was shown that Hunts- ville would be a place of special interest to those who would act their part to help the colored people." A special work is to be done here..." We welcome our distinguished alumni and friends who have come from thousands of miles and from around the globe to celebrate that "...special work." To celebrate it against incredible odds, the historical record affirms that over the years, a divine sense of purpose has guided the growth and development of our beloved "...and dear old OC." While we celebrate the College's history that sets forth an impressive record of growth and accomplishment, we recognize it confronts us with momen- tous challenges which must be met by a record-breaking Alumni Weekend Offering, the generous support of Annual Fund Giving, and the continued extraordinary gifts needed for successful completion of Oakwood's "Shields of Gold Capital Campaign." In this Centennial Window, we welcome alumni and friends to join us as partners in progress-building from strength, building for the future. Welcome!! Benjamin E Reaves President vd OAmOOD COLLEGENATIONALALUMNIASSOCIATION b V Alumni and friends, welcome home to the Centennial year Home- coming celebration, which has been planned to be one of the most memorable Homecomings in the history of our school. The officers, board members, regional vice and chapter presidents have worked untiringly to see that you, the alumni and supporters of Oakwood College, have a full and complete weekend. We have designed our programs to fulfill your spiritual, as well as your social needs. We trust you will enjoy this momentous occasion and that the memories of this Centennial Homecoming will linger with you for many years. Please continue to pray, to reach back, to come back and above all, to give back to our dear old Oakwood College. Chlora Jones, President National Alumni Association OAmiOOD COLLEGENATIONALALUMNIASSOCIATION HAPPY lOOTH BIRTHDAY! Can you see it? Angels walking on Oakwood College grounds! The year is 1896 and heaven came down with a plan that would affect the lives of thousands ofold and young. God knew we needed Oakwood to, make our lives complete and teach us things we could not learn anywhere else. One-hundred years later, I welcome you to a celebration that binds us together It is no coincidence that you are a part of this event. You are a part because God planned it so. We welcome you again to a place where loveliness keeps house. Dorothy Smith National Alumni Weekend Coordinator 4 Welcome to Centennial Homecoming Weekend!
