He studied electrical engineering at M. I. T. and received his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of North Carolina. He has served as Instructor in Psychiatry at the University of Virginia Medical School and as Lecturer in Psychology at Stanford University. Professor Tart is well known for his work in the areas of psycho- physiology, sleep and dreams, hypnosis, humanistic psychology, and parapsychology. He is the author of over fifty scientific papers and articles and holds a patent for a device he invented that is designed to be used in light shows.
