The fourth volume was published in 1986· It contc1ined information on 2218 works beginning with the alphabets Se and Ha (w"1•) leading the serial number to 21530. The fifth volume published in 1988 the supplementary list of the works beginning with the Alphabets A to.Ta (ar-;r) from 21531 to 26173· Now we are taking up the publication of the supplement-v list and this volume viz.. the sixth contains information on 4789 works taking up the series from 261 74 to 31385· With the publication of one more volume+ we hope to present before the indologiats a complete list of the Sanskrit manuscripts in our Institution. Library Vi· SCHEME OF THE WORK the scheme of the work 1s almost similar to that followed in the Alphabetical Index of Sanskrit Manuscripts 1n the Government Oriental Manuscripts Lrbrary, Madras· Every effort has been made to give adequate information concerning each manuscript. In f<1ct rnany detalls whrch are generally found only in th9 Descriptive Catalogues are incorporated in this Index· The first column shows the serial number of the manuscripts and it enables one to see the total number of the manuscripts in our collection. In the next column the number affixed to each manuscript in our collection is given which enables one to take out the manuscript from the library shelves. If a codex cont'lins more than one work 11 is c. indicated by giving A. B etc, at the right hand side of the number of the manuscript In the next two columns the title of the work is given in the Sanskrit alphabetical order in the Devanagari and Roman scriots· The name of the author of the work or commentator is not known a short line is given in that particular row The subject of the work is given 1n the sixth Clllumn· For clari~y the works have been classified under different subjects such as Ved3, Vedalak~ana Manrra,IJpani~at, Tantra.Puriir.a,ltihasa. Srauta. ~rautciprayoga, Grhya, Grhya?ravog'.l Dharma. S:inti. M~harrnya, Vrata. Bhakti, .::;k.,ii. Vyiikarana. Nirukca, Chandes, Jyoti-a, Vaidyaka. Vedanta. Nyava. Yoga, Mimiimsa. K:i.vya (Prakrtakavya, Campukavya) Nataka Afar1kfira,Natva..:astra, K!ima~astra, Niti, <;ilpa, Gita, Ko..:a. Stotra. Subha,ita, $;imudrika and Vividha· In the next column the number of granthac; in each work is given The script. meterial and extent of the work are n::ited in the next three columns. We have ir1 our collection manuscripts in various scripts such as Davanagari, Nandiniigari, Mdlayalarn,Tamil, Telugu, Grantha, Canarese and Bengali. The material of the manuscript is either palm-!ef or paper. Th~re are many wcrks which are incomplete, fragmentarv or complete. The remarks column gives details connected with the manuscript such as condition of the codex (whether old, worm·eaten or damaged). availability in other So uth-1 ndian libraries. date of copying the manuscript as found in the colophons etc, the number alloted to ttle work in the Descriptive Catalogue of S'Jnskrit or Malayalam Manuscripts i, this Library where more details of the work can be referred to easil\t.
