Following the traditions of the previous successful ICA3PP conferences held in Hangzhou, Brisbane, Singapore, Melbourne, Hong Kong, Beijing, Cyprus, Taipei, Busan, and Melbourne, this year ICA3PP 2012 was held in Fukuoka, Japan. The objective of ICA3PP 2012 was to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and government to advance the theories and technologies in parallel and distributed computing. September 2012 Koji Nakano Albert Zomaya Yang Xiang Message from the ICA3PP 2012 Program Chairs A warm welcome to the proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Algorithms and Architectures for Parallel Processing (ICA3PP 2012) held in Fukuoka, Japan. ICA3PP 2012 was the 12th in this series of conferences started in 1995 that are devoted to algorithms and architectures for parallel processing. ICA3PP is now recognized as the main regular event in the world covering the many di- mensions of parallel algorithms and architectures, encompassing fundamental theoretical approaches, practical experimental results, and commercial compo- nents and systems. As applications of computing systems have permeated in every aspect of daily life, the power of computing systems has become increas- ingly critical. ICA3PP 2012 provideda widely knownforum for researchersand practitioners from countries around the world to exchange ideas on improving the computation power of computing systems. Inresponseto the ICA3PP2012callfor papers,wereceived156submissions from 27 countries. These papers were evaluated on the basis of their original- ity, significance, correctness, relevance, and technical quality. Each paper was reviewed by at least three members of the ProgramCommittee. Basedon these evaluations,ofthepaperssubmitted,39regularpapersand26shortpaperswere selected for presentation at the conference, representing 25% of acceptance for regular papers and 16.7% of acceptance for short papers.
