2007-Issue 1 1 Dear readers and contributors, Assalāmu ‘alaikum, Prophet Muḥammad (ṣallallāhu ‘alaihi wa sallam) is our guide in every walk of life. We should strive to mold our lives after his example. A study of his life would reveal the gems that we do not find anywhere else. From his handling of city politics to his dealing with family members, he was the epitome of perfection. We can find a role model in any and every aspect of his life. His example was carried on by his Righteous Khulafa after him, and has been rejuvenated through the advent of the Promised Messiah, ‘alaihisslām, and his khulafa. He treated everyone with kindness, especially children. He would share in people’s joys and grief. He was truthful, gentle, and courteous. He was extremely simple in his food and drink. He never drank wine, but liked a cup of milk. Our Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was a very simple man and did not spend his time gathering wealth. His clothes were plain and had many patches. He never liked the riches of royalty. However, the only luxury he liked was perfume, which he would wear often. Cleanliness was one of the most important things the Holy Prophet desired. The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) was very kind to animals as well. He forbade any harsh treatment of them and taught his followers to take care of them. Our Holy Prophet also taught us to work with our own hands. Nothing was too beneath him to do. He himself showed this example by helping his wives with housework. He did not accept worldly riches and comfort. He showed a great deal of patience and forgave people their mistakes and bad things that they did to him. Also, he was always kind to neighbors. He spent a lot of time praying to Allah for everyone in his community. Our Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) is still the greatest role model and leader for the entire world to follow. I pray that Allah will give me some of the wonderful qualities he gave to our dearest Prophet of Islam Muhammad (peace be upon him), Insha’ Allah. Sulaiman Yaqub Asad, Age 9 2007-Issue 1 Silver Spring, MD 3 Baseer Abdul Haqq, Age 10 Philadelphia, PA My role model is Huzur, Khalifatul-Masih V. I would love to become as spiritual as Huzur. Huzur is very powerful and he knows so much about the whole Qur’an. Many people request him to pray for them and children learn from him. Huzur travels around the world to spread the message of Islam Ahmadiyya. Huzur is very nice. I've had the chance to meet him in Canada. The Khalifah lives in London where I hope to soon meet him. I love Huzur and he can teach me so much. I really enjoy watching him on MTA. May Allah bless our Khalifah, Hadrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad Khalifatul-Masih V. My Role Model Tasveer Kawaja, Age 13 Philadelphia, PA A role model is someone who serves as an example for you, someone you can look up to. My role model is The Holy Prophet sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam . He was the perfect example for every Muslim to follow. He helped the poor in any way he could and always thought of others before himself. For example when the Holy Prophet sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam married Hadrat Khadija (may Allah be pleased with her) she presented all of her slaves and wealth to him. The Holy Prophet sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam immediately set the slaves free and gave the money to the poor. Another reason why I chose The Holy Prophet sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam as my role model is because he was always very kind to children. Whenever his daughter Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her) visited him the Holy Prophet sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam treated her with respect. For example when she visited him he would stand up and give her his own seat. This is why I chose the Holy Prophet sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam as my role model. 4 Al-Hilāl Muneeb Khan, Age 14 South Virginia Who is your role model? Is it someone famous or unknown? Is it someone tall or short? Whoever he/she may be I do not necessarily mind. My opinion is as long as he/she inspires you, he/she is your role model. My opinion is however; it should be someone whom you have seen. We all are inspired by the Holy Prophet Muhammad sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. We have also heard of his tremendous actions. However the person whom I have seen and who also inspires me is Hadrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad, rahimahullah. The reason I am inspired by Hadrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad rahimahullah is the fact that I have not only seen but also have heard of his numerous accomplishments. Let me give you some information on this amazing man. Hadrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad rahimahullah was born on December, 18th, 1928. He was born to Hadrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmood Ahmad radiyallahu ‘anhu and Maryam Siddiqua. As a boy Hadrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad rahimahullah was mischievous like an ordinary boy. He would dare his friends and always tried to pull pranks. His grades were not the best and at one point in his life he questioned the existence of Allah, confusing science and literature. However he knew his faith could not be wrong and stuck to his prayers until Allah showed him in a dream that He did exist. Among some of the things I have read about Hadrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad rahimahullah this is one I liked. The other one I liked best was the incident in Pakistan. It was called the prayer duel. When the Ahmadi Muslims were being persecuted in Pakistan, Zia-ul-Haq, the main opponent of Ahmadis encouraged 2007-Issue 1 5 t his persecution. Hadrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad rahimahullah proposed a prayer duel in order to determine who was right. Zia-ul-Haq, though did not accept the challenge directly, but did indirectly through speech and adverse actions. This is because on August, 17, 1988 only five days later when he was on a plane it crashed with a horrendous explosion! When people tried to retrieve his body they could not find it. The blast had incinerated his whole body! The only thing they had to conduct his burial with were his dentures (replacement teeth). These are only some of the accomplishments of Hadrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad rahimahullah. There are many more and I have only named some well known incidents. This is to prove however what a great influence Hadrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad rahimahullah was and still is to us today. We should all know this man as well as the other khalifahs and prophets that have existed. We should also read the book, A Man Of God. May Allah bless Hadrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad. Ameen! Who I Admire Sohail Malik, Age 10, Virginia North I admire my father because he is intelligent and works very hard. He puts in time for other things he needs to accomplish for the day and always gets the job done. He always prays at the right time and makes sure that my siblings and I pray together. In the morning, he reads the Holy Qur’an. Whenever he is sick he still does some work that has to be done, for example, around the house or maybe in the garage. My father is VERY clean and organized. He has always been a tidy person. He is funny and likes to cheer people up and he is never in a bad mood. He is very strong. He always listens to my ideas and what I have to say and never interrupts. I learn so much from him. He puts a lot of time and effort into things and I hope that one day I will be like that. 6 Al-Hilāl Qasid Sadiq, Age 13~Los Angeles East What is a role model? A role model is someone who you respect, admire, and look up to. There are many people that can be role models: parents, teachers, or religious leaders. For me it is Hadrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad (rahimahullah); the fourth caliph of Ahmadiyyat. I will list and describe the reasons why Hadrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad (rahimahullah) is my role model. The main reason of why Hadrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad (rahimahullah) is my role model is his influence in today’s religious society and how well he has defended Islam and Ahmadiyyat. He has written many books in where he has shown that Islam is a true religion, one of the most famous ones being Revelation, Rationality, Knowledge and Truth. In this book he uses logic and science to prove Islam is a genuine religion. Another reason that I admire Hadrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad (rahimahullah) so much is because of his intelligence. After his graduation he earned a Shahid degree from Jami‘ah Ahmadiyya. Then he studied in Oxford for two years. Hadrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad (rahimahyllah) is a very good role model for anyone. If you have heard or read any one of his speeches or books then you would understand why I consider him my role model. He has made a modern society truly understand Islam. 2007-Issue 1 7 Daanyal Qureshi, Age 10, York/Harrisburg, PA “Verily, you have in Prophet of Allah an excellent model, for him who hopes to meet Allah and the Last Day and Who remembers Allah much.” Holy Qur’an, 33:22. Allah tells us that the Holy Prophet, sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, is the best role model for all of us. The Holy Prophet’s whole life is the greatest example for us to follow. The Holy Prophet, sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, was orphaned as a young child, but even then he was very calm and honorable. He did not get into fights with his friends or waste his time. As a youth he had the best morals and was very serious. Hadrat Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Ăs relates that the Holy Prophet, sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, did not indulge in loose talk, nor did he listen to it. He used to say: The best of you are those who have the best character (Bukhari and Muslim). When the Holy Prophet, sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, became a young man he won the title of Al-Amin which means the Trustworthy and the Truthful. Hadrat Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud, radiyallahu ’anhu, relates that the Holy Prophet, sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, said: Truth guides to virtue and virtue guides to Paradise. A person persists in telling the truth till in the sight of Allah he is named truthful. Lying leads to vice and vice leads to the Fire; and a person goes on lying till in the sight of Allah he is named a liar (Bukahri and Muslim). When the Holy Prophet, sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, did business, he proved himself to be the most honest and ethical. Hadrat Abu Hurairah, radiyallahu ’anhu, relates that the Holy Prophet, sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, said: A hypocrite has three characteristics: when he talks he lies, when he makes a promise he acts contrary to it, and when something is entrusted to him he embezzles it (Bukhari and Muslim). As a Husband, the Holy Prophet, sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, was the most loving, faithful and caring. He would do his household 8 Al-Hilāl work with his own hands. As a father the Holy Prophet, sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, was the most kind, caring and tender. As a friend the Holy Prophet, sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, was the most loyal and cared for their needs. He never lost faith in times of hardships and never let victory make him forget Allah. He loved simplicity. He slept on a leather mat and ate only dates and water or barley-bread. He would spend his nights in the worship of Allah so much so that his feet got swollen. Hadrat Ayesha, may Allah be pleased with her, relates: the Holy Prophet, sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, stood so long during his voluntary prayer at night that the skin of his feet would crack; so I said to him: Messenger of Allah, why do you stand so long in prayer when Allah has suppressed in you in the past and for the future all inclination towards sin? He answered: then should I not wish to be a grateful servant of Allah? (Bukhari and Muslim) Here he has taught us that we must worship Allah to be grateful to Him for all that he has given us and to become the righteous servants of Allah. The Holy Prophet, sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, taught us how to spend our time wisely. Hadrat Abu Dahrr, radiyallahu ’anhu, relates that the Holy Prophet, sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, said: When you get up in the morning charity is due from every one of your limbs. All glorification of Allah is charity, all praise of Allah is charity, enjoining good is charity, forbidding evil is charity. Two rak‘as of prayer in the forenoon equal all this. (Muslim) The Holy Prophet, sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, taught us how to treat each other and to take care of each other’s needs. Hadrat Abu Hurairah, radiyallahu ’anhu, relates that the Holy Prophet, sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, said: He who removes from a believer his distress in this world will have his distress of the Day of Judgment removed by Allah. He who eases the hardship of another, will have ease bestowed upon him by Allah in this world and the next. He who covers up the faults of a Muslim will have his faults covered up in this world and the next. Allah goes on helping a servant so long as he goes on helping his brother. He who treads a path in search of knowledge, has his path to Paradise made easy by Allah 2007-Issue 1 9 thereby. Whenever people gather in a house of Allah for the purpose of reading the Book of Allah and share its reading between them, serenity descends upon them, and mercy covers them and angels spread their wings over them and Allah discourses about them to those around Him. He who is slow in his conduct will not make it proceed faster by the nobility of his birth (Muslim). May Allah help all of us to learn and act upon the examples the Holy Prophet, sallallahu ’alaihi wa sallam, has shown us and may Allah guide all of us on the right path. Ameen. My Role Model Adeela Nasreen, Age 15 South Virginia My role model is Hadrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad (rahimahullah). He was a remarkable Khalifah, and an even more remarkable human being. In his life he went through a lot, especially during his khilafat. He had devoted himself to the cause of Allah and loved to spend his time in worship. Not because he had to but because he wanted to. By the grace of Allah, he escaped death more than just once. Still after that he lived his life to the fullest. He never let anyone see his fear. In fact he told others to have hope. The strength and ability he showed was only seen in Allah’s righteous servants. Every Ahmadi and then some know that Hadrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad (rahimahullah) went to London for a reason, and a very important reason at that. He went to London to be able to continue discharging his responsibilities as khalifah which has been made impossible through constitutuional changes. Laws of the country, and the atmosphere created by them, threatened his life and freedom. But Hadrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad (rahimahullah) was saved by Allah. The name on the exit list was incorrect so he was allowed to travel safely to London. When the Maulavis and the government realized the mistake, it was already too late for any action to be taken. Look how much Allah loves His Khalifahs! Khalifah Rābi, along with every other Khalifah has such a beautiful 10 Al-Hilāl
