he Legacy of al-Andalus is a public
T
foundation that belongs to the
Junta de Andalucía (Andalusian
Government)headquartered in Granada. Its
board of trustees includes the Andalusian
Government Department of Tourism and
Commerce, the Department of Education,
Culture and Sports, and the Department of
Government.
The routes designed by the Foundation
were nominated “Cultural European
Itinerary”in 1997, and, together with the
“Road of Santiago”, they are unique in
Spain. These routes were declared a
“Major Cultural Itinerary”by the Council
of Europe in 2004, which recognized its
importance in the dissemination of the
cultural patrimony that the foundation has
developed over the years.

The foundation’s main goals are focused
on the appreciation and education about
the Hispano-Moslem civilization through
its cultural and artistic heritage, as well as
the historic and social relationship with
the Arab world and the Mediterranean
area.
For more than 20 years we have been
involved in all aspects of tourism
development, and it is our purpose to
launch, together with our partner and
collaborator, Singularize Spain Travel
Group, this project that makes of
Andalusia a “Muslim-Friendly”
destination.
Andalusia can be proud of being one of
Europe’s richest areas in the heritage of
al-Andalus, ready to be visited. Hence, the
aim of our proposal is to offer this
patrimony together with the necessary
commodities, services and facilities to
suitably serve Muslim tourists.

he Pavilion of al-Andalus and

Science is the headquarter of the
AndalusianPublic Foundation El
legado andalusi (The legacy of al-Andalus).
Located at the Science Park of Granada, it
is one of the most visited in Andalusia,
and it offers the visitor a wide vision
of the Arab scientific legacy and the
diverse contributions of the civilization
of al-Andalus.
It is unique in Europe.
The themes have an educational nature
and they cover the period of al-Andalus,
the Arabo-Muslim scientific legacy and its
contribution to the world of science.
The Museum, furthermore, shows a full
series of resources to enhance and
promote intercultural exchange,
knowledge of al-Andalus and the
communications among Andalusia, Spain
and the Arab world, thus boosting
international cooperation.

civilizations throughout history, is
also the repository of a monumental
cultural legacy. The period of Arab-Muslim
presence in Andalusia gave rise to an
extraordinary cultural exchange between East
and West, whose marks are still visible in
this region's daily life. Its heritage, as the
reflections of that splendor, can be admired
in monuments as singular as the Mosque of
Córdoba, the Giralda tower of Seville or the
Alhambra of Granada, all universal examples
of the historic, architectural and artistic
legacy of al-Andalus, which has also been
preserved in the region’s gastronomy, in its
landscape and in the hospitality that people
from Andalusia grant their visitors.
Echoes from al-Andalus remain strong
imprinted on the countryside and urban
landscapes, and we invite the traveler to visit
one of the regions where the weight of history
can be sensed through the beauty of artistic
patrimony, a past that opens its doors to us
today.
