Air Pollution Modeling and its Application XXI NATO Science for Peace and Security Series This Series presents the results of scientific meetings supported under the NATO Programme:ScienceforPeaceandSecurity(SPS). The NATO SPS Programme supports meetings in the following Key Priority areas: (1) Defence Against Terrorism; (2) Countering other Threats to Security and (3) NATO, Partner and Mediterranean Dialogue Country Priorities. The types of meeting supported are generally "Advanced Study Institutes" and "Advanced Research Workshops". The NATO SPS Series collects together the results of these meetings. The meetings are co-organizedbyscientistsfromNATOcountriesandscientistsfromNATO's"Partner"or "MediterraneanDialogue"countries.Theobservationsandrecommendationsmadeatthe meetings,aswellasthecontentsofthevolumesintheSeries,reflectthoseofparticipants andcontributorsonly;theyshouldnotnecessarilyberegardedasreflectingNATOviews orpolicy. AdvancedStudyInstitutes(ASI)arehigh-leveltutorialcoursesintendedtoconveythe latestdevelopmentsinasubjecttoanadvanced-levelaudience Advanced Research Workshops (ARW) are expert meetings where an intense but informal exchange of views at the frontiers of a subject aims at identifying directions for futureaction Followingatransformationoftheprogrammein2006theSerieshasbeenre-namedand re-organised.Recentvolumesontopicsnotrelatedtosecurity,whichresultfrommeetings supportedundertheprogrammeearlier,maybefoundintheNATOScienceSeries. From inception, the subject of air pollution was established as one of the priority problems for study within the frameworkofvariouspilotstudiesundertakenbythiscommittee.Themainactivity relating to air pollution is the periodic organization of a conference series called InternationalTechnicalMeetingonAirPollutionModelinganditsApplication (ITM). Pilot Countries organizing these meetings have been: United States of America; Federal Republic of Germany; Belgium; The Netherlands; Denmark; PortugalandCanada. This volume contains the abstracts of papers and posters presented at the 31st NATO/SPS ITM, held in Torino, Italy, from September 27 to October 1, 2010. This ITM was organizedby the Instituteof Atmospheric Sciences andClimateof theItalianNationalResearchCouncil(HostCountry)andTheUniversityofBritish Columbia (Pilot Country). Key topics presented at this ITM included: Local and urbanscalemodelling;Regionalandintercontinentalmodelling;Dataassimilation and air quality forecasting; Model assessment and verification; Aerosols in the atmosphere; Interactions between climate change and air quality; Air quality and humanhealth. The ITM was attended by 157 participants representing 36 countries.
