Omer is a world renown extreme sports athlete himself who has been involved for more than 20 years in numerous disciplines within this area and was responsible for the establishment and production of many innovative events. His achievements vary from mountaineering fi rst ascents to be part of the evolve- ment of the sports of wing-suit fl ying and base jumping. In the past years Omer is involved in extreme sports research, mainly in the areas of climbing and base jump- ing injuries but also observing the mental characteristics and hormonal aspects of extreme sports athletes. v vi About the Authors Mr. Mike Carmont is a knee and foot and ankle Orthopedic Surgeon from the north of England. He has competed at adventure sports for the last 20 years fell rac- ing, orienteering, mountain bike orienteering and moutain marathon racing up to elite level and has completed the Devizes to Westminster Kayak marathon twice. He has researched kayak and mountain bike injuries and has written many arti- cles and scienti fi c papers on this and other sports injuries.
