The Cleveland Museum of Art Appoints Scott C. Mueller to Board of Trustees CLEVELAND (October 2, 2008) — The Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA) announced that Scott C. Mueller has been appointed to a five-year term as a standing member of the Board of Trustees. “I am delighted to welcome Scott to the board during this historic time for the museum,” commented Alfred M. Rankin, Jr., president of the Board of Trustees. “Prior to his appointment, Scott had joined the museum’s Individual Giving Steering Committee. His continuing commitment to our collection and the expansion of our facilities, along with his excellent business acumen, will bring an important dimension to the museum as we begin the next phase in the transformation of this world-class institution.” The museum is currently undergoing a $350 million comprehensive renovation and expansion of its facilities, designed by internationally renowned architect Rafael Viñoly. The project, the largest of its kind ever undertaken by a cultural institution in the State of Ohio, will leave no part of the museum untouched by the time it is completed in 2012. Among the most significant changes will be the renovation of two historic buildings, the addition of nearly 35,000 square feet of gallery space, and the creation of a superb glass atrium that will function as the heart of the museum and promises to be one of Cleveland’s finest new civic spaces. With the first phase of the project nearly complete, $204.5 million has been raised through significant community and trustee support. Scott C. Mueller is chief executive officer of Dealer Tire LLC, which he founded along with his brother, Dean, in 1999. He began working for the family-run Mueller Tire in 1987, and the business quickly grew from one retail store to 19 Cleveland- and Columbus-area stores. The swift success of both Scott Mueller and Dealer Tire has earned many accolades, including the 2007 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the Northeast Ohio region, the 2006 Dively Entrepreneur Award from the Harvard Business School club of Northeastern Ohio, the 2006 Centurion Award from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University (Dealer Tire) for being one of the fastest growing, over $100 million companies, in Northeast Ohio, and the 2007 Leading EDGE award (Dealer Tire) as one of the top performing companies in Northeast Ohio. Mueller currently serves on the boards of the Cleveland Sight Center, MetroHealth Foundation, Inc., Western Reserve Land Conservancy, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland. Mueller received a Bachelor of Business Administration, summa cum laude, from the University of Miami and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago. He and his wife, Margaret “Meg” Fulton-Mueller, have an active interest in collecting contemporary art. They live in Hunting Valley, Ohio, with their two children.
