(PAscoE, 1869) on the basisofexamplescollected by A. R. WALLAcE in Sarawak, Borneo.
Thereafter,therehavebeenfewrecordsofthisspeciesfromotherregions. ThedistributionofM.
scite11ais,howeverclearlylargerthanoriginallyrecorded,andthegeographicalvariationlarger.
WehaveobtainedspecimensofthisspeciesfromSouthKalimantan,SouthandWestSumatraas
wellastheMalayPeninsulainadditiontothosefromSabahinnorthernBorneo,whichisadjacent
toSarawak, fromwherethespecieswasoriginallydescribed. Thus, it isatypicalspeciesof
western'Malayana'ofPAscoE.
Thevariationisconsiderable,especiallyregardingthecoloration. Thecolourof pronotum
canbedarkerthanreddishyellowasoriginallydescribedbyPAscoE. Insomecasesit istotally
blackish,thoughwithasomewhatreddishtone. Thecolourofelytraisalsovariablewithdiffering
dimensionof the 'triangularstraw-colouredstripe' onelytraldisc. SomespecimensfromSouth
Kalimantan have almost totally black-colouredelytra, rather resembling those of M baliana
YoKoIetNIIsAToorMpue11aPAscoEwithsimilarpunctuation. Finally, thecolourof thelast
antennasegmentsvariesinaccordancewithlocation. Whilethelasttwosegmentsofantennaeare

yellowintheholotypefromSarawak, threesegmentsareyellowinthespecimensfromwest
SumatrawhereasonlyoneissointhosefromSouthKalimantan.
