The crea- tive zeal in man does not permit him to remain static and propels him to discover new things and tread new avenues, Telugu, a branch of Dravidian family, has enriched itself by its intimate contact with Sanskrit. It's heavy borrowing from that classical language made the erier scholars misconceive that Telugu was a product of Sans- krit. Earlier, poets used a diction - a hormonious blend of Telugu and Sanskrit. But the later poets showed a preference to such a heavily Sanskritized diction that some of the Telugu verses looked like Sanskrit slokas. Ponnekanti Telagana who tasted the sweetness of Chaste Telugu wondered how it would be if the whole work is put in Chaste, unmixed Telugu His experiment 'Yayati Charitra' became a great success. He, thus, became a pioneer of a new genre of Telugu literature. One of the prominent and well . known followers of Telagana was Kuchimanchi Timma Kavi. Of the 15 literary works, which Timmaya penned, two poetic works were exclusively written in Chaste Telugu one of them is 'Ramayana'. The story of Rama has been for ages a fascinating theme for writers Timmaya has also faced the same problem that Telagana VI encountered. How should he put in the sanskritized proper nouns? Should they also be Telugtzed? Some of the followers of Telagana did it, making the work unintelligible to readers But no, like Telagana he did not like it. He accepted them as they were. The aim of Timmaya as well has been to make his work intelligible to readers and he did it admirably. No research work worth the name is hither to made as this genre of Telugu literature. Our friend, Dr. K.V. Sundaracharyulu, did not want to follow the beaten track He decided to tread a new path and unravel the linguistic mysteries of Chaste Telugu works, hitherto left unexplored being prejudiced by the popular misconception that they were nothing but literary gimmicks. He began with Timmaya's 'Ramayana' for M his Phil degree and then launched as a full length thesis as Chaste Telugu works for his Ph.D. This is our friend Sundaracharyuiu, different from others. He is a great scholar in Telugu and Sanskrit, a good critic and a good teacher, but above all he is a man; he is not the scholar, but the man with scholarship and erudition. That makes him different from others. He has a way of life, a peculiar approach towards problems. I wish him long life and hope he would pen some more works with his individualistic imprint on them.
